Reports are that the deal is close. Value is at $125 Million with $100 in Total Guarantees. $50 Million is to be fully guaranteed at the time of signing.

Garrett is slated to get $25 Million per season; surpassing Khalil Mack's $23 Million. That makes Garrett the highest paid defensive player in terms of yearly earnings.

All this said, this seems to be not just a good move for the Browns (for once in who knows how long) but also a preemptive strike against the Steelers via T.J. Watt. Should Watt have another great season, expect Watt to ask for $24 Million yearly minimum. Contract should be around $122-124 Million with at least $95-97 Million in total guarantees.

The tricky part will be fully guaranteed money at the time of signing. $50 Million is the current rumored benchmark now. Hopefully T.J. Watt gets $47 Million but I suspect it will be higher than $50 Million.

    Thoughts?!

Ha ha! I am aware such a topic is definitley stepping out of bounds a bit. However, his contract situation is indirectly tied to T.J. Watt. Assuming T.J. has another great season, expect him to reset the market once more.

They're going to look awfully silly when he blows a fuse again and gets banned from the league. He's shown his true colors.

Garrett has DPOY potential and I expect him to be one of the best edge players in the league for the next decade. He is insanely talented and I don’t think we have seen the best of him yet. This is one of the most sensible things the Brown have done in recent history, not that that is a high bar.

I’d be surprised if we see another Rudolph type incident from him but to be honest the Browns would have been well within their rights to make him wait another season for this big payday.

That roster has so much young talent it’s crazy. Can they put it all together? Doubts are certainly still there about the quarterback, left tackle and multiple positions on defence. I also don’t like OBJ there, he is just not a fit for that organisation albeit he is an elite receiver when healthy.

The AFC North battle will be fascinating assuming there is a season. I am not convinced that the Ravens are a slam dunk for the division personally. Seasons rarely go according to the script and 2020 has been such a crazy year as it is.

I still believe it will come down to Ravens vs. Steelers. I expect Cleveland to make some noise but I will not be shocked if Kevin Stephanski is run out of there much like Freddie Kitchens was. However, Andrew Berry, to me, finally seems like a step in the right direction for the Factory of Saddness.

Regarding Garrert, I agree. I said during my review of him via the 2017 NFL Draft that if Garrett can over come his work ethic limitations; a perninnal All Pro is waiting to be awoken. Well, I was right.....

    ..... sort of.

    Talent > Character issues.

Even the Steelers saw that first hand with Antonio Brown for the 2010s decade. That said, as much of a distraction AB was, he pales in comparison to the likes of Garrett and never mind Burfict.

The thing about a crazy talented team is that it rarely sees the "sum of its parts." The Pats, cheating aside, had probably the greatest talent to success ratio ever. The Steelers, on the other hand, had talent to spare, but did little with it. The Browns will win some games they shouldn't, but they won't be consistent at it.

At this stage I'd agree with this. I think Myles Garrett CAN be a great player for the next 10 yrs. This is a crossroads year for him. While AB is certifiably insane, I don't see that with Garrett, at least not yet. If Garretts head is on straight, he's gonna be a force, maybe DPOY. OTOH,he could continue to screw up. But, I'll bet on his talent for this year. If he disappoints, he's the next Ndongagun Suh (spelling?) , a decent player who you expected to be great, but wasn't because he couldn't manage his anger.
