Icant believe there isnt a thread abt this yet............. Imo they are taking this to far, If a minority is the best man for the job by all means hire him, but dont be hireing a minority just to get extra draft pics, or because its the politically correct thing to do ......

If I were the owners or players union I would be pressuring the league to stop this and to find another way to get teams to take the spirit of the rule to heart.

    What's the next step?

They gonna allow a team to have 12 guys on defense if one of your dbs are white?

I will be in favor of this when they equally apply this incentive to the players that make up each team. It's all about percentages, right?

There are no players in college at certain positions that are NFL caliber, for percentages to make up each team.

So, teams have to interview more people before they hire whoever they wanted in the first place! Got it! Why be required to interview 2 minorities OUTSIDE the organization?

Yeah, I'm still to find a story that corroborates with the OP, but perhaps that's just me.

I've seen that they're expanding the rule as Santee said. A bit different from what was claimed at the top of the thread though.

I'm all for hiring the best individual for the job no matter who they are. The whole push to give extra draft picks for this is just mindless and discriminating. I understand the Rooney Rule to get more exposure to a minority hire, but again, it's the best person for the job as far as i'm concerned.

Aha, I saw something on SteelersDepot about this now.

It doesn't sound like it was likely to be implemented?

Not to hijack this thread, but here is a proposed rule change that sounds interesting.

    Part of the article:

"So, basically, teams could still onside kick, but if this proposal was adopted, they also would have the opportunity to convert a 4th-and-15 scenario at their own 25-yard line to retain possession. Gaining 15 or more yards, presumably by passing the football, is certainly easier than executing a successful onside kick.

NFL Media's Tom Pelissero noted on Twitter that teams could not use the 4th-and-15 attempt more than two times per game."

Also happy to report they dumped the challenge for pass interference.

Edit: After thinking about the proposed onside kick rule, I dislike it. A hard earned lead late in the game has less value with this change. How about less change to make the ball more recoverable. Receiving team has to back up 5 or 10 more yards or something.

Tomlin would be using the 4th-and-15 attempt on the opening kick-off.

I think we need a rule that every team must bring in three white running backs and three white corners, to training camp.

MLK: Judge people not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

NFL: Let's reward teams for hiring non-white candidates!

I'm not a fan of the Rule to begin with. It's not because I don't want minorities given chances. It's not because I'm racist. It's because any time you start legislating changes that force people to conduct themselves differently, you water down the action AND the result. Maybe the best qualified weren't being hired before the Rule. Maybe the good ole' boy network was in full effect. And no, that's not good. But dammit, let's just bring the hiring process into the light and make it transparent. Let everyone see who you are interviewing and ultimately hire. If you never hire a minority, then you deal with the public perception and let the chips fall where they may. But on its best day, the Rule still gives minority candidates opportunities to be overlooked. On its worst day, it pressures owners to hire less qualified minorities to satisfy an arbitrary mandate.

It was not used properly anyway and I do believe it was never enforced. Plus it took time away from a few more commercials :hehehe:

Speaking of commercials, the split scream crap is just annoying.

And please if they decide to play the games and do it without fans for safety sake DO NOT pump in crowd noise.

Once upon a time I was building a power plant in Minnesota. It included government funds so we had requirements to hire women wnd minorities. I hired neither. Not one. The government audited me and and expressed their disdain. I saw this coming. We were signatory to the iron workers union. I pointed out that in the entire state of Minnesota there was a total of one female iron worker. Strangely enough, she was already employed. There were zero minority iron workers in Minnesota. The auditors moved on.

So find me a Hispanic female left tackle.
