Haley wasn't a bad OC. I'm surprised that no other teams in the NFL could use his services. Must be his attitude is my guess.

Attitude was always his problem, not a bad OC, but a head case.

Forgot about Arians, guess you can say he could be under Cowher or Tomlin, he did coach for more total years under other head coaches, but could go either way.

Agree he wasn't a bad OC but off field, tag team brawls with his wife in bars may be an indicator that his mind wasn't totally right.

I thought I read he was the offensive coordinator of a high school team in Florida.

'Not bad' OC's don't go from the NFL to high school in 2 years.
Hiring him was one of the biggest mistakes the Steelers ever made.

Darryl Drake was more qualified to be the WR coach than Ward, I wouldn't hired him either, it didn't work out with Lake and Porter.

I think Drake was definitely the most qualified to be the position coach but Ward has a lot of knowledge that he can give to guys who have less physical gifts that others. Besides that I don't think they are referring to take Ward over Drake more of making Ward a permanent part of the staff while Drake was alive then leaning on him after Drakes unfortunate passing.

Care to elaborate? I'm in the "extended Ben's career" camp. Haley did fail inside the twenty imo.

Yeah, I think Haley did some really good things at OC. However, I also think back to certain play calls and feel like he bungled some situational football decisions that hurt us pretty badly (like the 4th down play calls vs. Jacksonville in our last playoff game). He would have probably done better than Fichtner did without Ben last year though.

Haley wasn't the only guy out there who could have extended Ben's career. The options for OC went beyond Arians or Haley.

Arians was under coach Cowher. Tomlin inherited Arians ... just like he inherited a superbowl caliber team.

There were others out there but I think they picked the right guy because it needed to be someone who wasn't afraid to be a "dick", who was comfortable having to be the guy who tells Ben he is doing it wrong and it would shorten his career if he kept doing it. Someone who wouldn't be Ben's pal and let him have his way all the time. I mean the job required a real tool and let's face it, that was a job Haley was perfect for.

Rudolph says hi. But no, Haley's offenses put up points. I was thinking about that the other day. I think Haley would say **** to Ben nobody else could aka AB. That's why AB still likes Haley. Ben has too much control and yes men around. Somebody like Haley was needed and kept Ben motivated.

Again, Haley wasn't the only man for that job. His bad outweighed his good. He'd come up with what seemed like a workable game plan, then p!ss it all away on a bad play call at a pivotal point in the game. Over and over again.

Does any team have less to show for 3 all-pros on offense than Haley's offense in Pittsburgh? He always found a way to screw it up. The only thing I ever heard him say that I agreed with was "SHUT THE F@CK UP, BEN".

won't get much fight from me on that, there were definitely squandered opportunities but I feel a lot of that falls on the Tomlin's shoulders for not planning better. Those we will run the wheels off Bell even in meaningless week 15 matchups, or put AB in situations where you know they are looking to hurt him or having Ben throw 40+ times. Just poor planning

What the hell does being black have to do with anything? I have yet to see Tomlin develop coaches because he is a fraud, not because he is black. If that wasn't the premise of your post, then why did you feel the need to bring race into the picture?

Like running Bell wide on 4th and 1 vs. the fastest defense in the league?

I put more blame on Tomlin than Haley.

Haley was known for conflict everywhere he went, but I don't remember any between him and Tomlin.

I think you are reading into this sideways. He went from the NFL to unemployed. That eventually happens to every coach. The high school is local. He’s just doing that to help kids.
