Let's just allow this number is soak in our collective consciousness....34.5 sacks in three years one of those being a rookie year.

Heck if Mario could defer his payments and then buy the Penguins and return them to respectability then Ben can take some of that 40 mill and secure TJ's services until 2035.

I wonder if they will pay him aaron Donald and khalil mack type money which is what he would get on the open market.

Maybe $20 million a year, probably not Donald and Mack money though, those guys are DPOY.

Just the 5th year option should be pretty expensive. I imagine he will get 20 plus a year.

Probably but the main thing is what does the market dictate and also the guaranteed money. Demarcus Lawrence last year just got 65 million and he's not better than watt. Its a market rate so we will see what happens.

I suspect we franchise him when the time comes and hope that Ben retires to free up a ton of money

That's an idea but retirement would only save the $4 million salary and the $15 million roster bonus but as i understand it, we'd still have $22 million in dead money from the signing bonus and restructure bonus. Those bonuses have already been paid and have to be accounted for somehow.

I'm thinking Watt isn't all about the money. Probably just lives a simple life with a passion for playing a game.

    Hey FootballAnalyst98.

We have to keep Watt. It is imperative. The Front Office lost almost a decade with finding the other "Bookend" OLB to match with Watt. We lost four years with Jarvis "The Bust" Jones and we lost the first four with Bud "The Underachiever" Dupree. For the record, as I have stated several times here, I am still not sold on Dupree. Yes, last season was his best. Given that, was it really that great? IMO, it was not. I would say it was "adequate" at best. It took him five years to have a "decent" season. IMO, the jury is still out. He also put us in quite the bind by waiting" to Year #5 to "come around". By doing so we had to take a wait and see approach which led to tagging him.

I hope that our safety, Edmunds, turns it on this year or we are going to be in the same boat. Is this Edmunds third or fourth year? I am not sure. Nonetheless, he needs to produce now. Management only stuck with Dupree, IMO, because they did not want another "Bust" first rounder at OLB on their track record. That would have meant two #1 failures in a row at that position. I am rooting for Mr. Dupree. I do not like to see failure when it comes to my Steelers. We have a great "D" now and he is an intricate part of it. Given that, I personally am expecting more out of him. Given all of this, I hope that Mr. Highsmith turns out to be something special. Come on Bud!

Roethlisberger isn't that kind of guy. He put getting paid ahead of giving the team its best shot at winning in his final seasons.

Roethlisberger is a Hall of Fame player, but we should all know better than to expect him to be like Lemieux.

This move was always a done deal for the Steelers. They aren't signing Watt to a long-term deal this offseason. Maybe they do it before 2021, but even then they still have control for two seasons when you consider the franchise tag. I don't think they want it to get there. My guess is Dupree is gone after this season and Watt's long-term contract is the top priority next offseason. Then they deal with Fitzpatrick after the 2021 season, when Roethlisberger will be off the books.

I hope you’re joking lol. He has 3.5 less sacks than his brother in the same timeframe but with 4 more forced fumbles and 3 interceptions

If TJ delivers another DPOY worthy season in 2020 then they have to give him $20m minimum. That’s more than Von Miller but not quite Khalil Mack’s $23.5m.

Hope Highsmith works out because they cant afford Bud if they are paying TJ that

I think the negotiations will be interesting. I don't think TJ is the type of player that defines himself by the money he is paid. I think he values team wins more then accolades and money earned. I mean if there ever was a guy I could see saying no pay me 5 or 10 million less and get this guy signed because we need him to win a championship. JJ seems the same way more concerned about helping others than getting mountains of cash.

A 3-4 olb is essentially a DE... And its about who gets paid first. If khalil mack got paid after demarcus Lawrence he would have made more than he did.
