You got that right! Of the 21 safeties who ran the 40 at the combine only three were
slower than Brooks. He has to be kept in the box.

Not doubting his tackling ability. Just his speed. Looks like a slower Shamarko Thomas. He does carry about 10 more pounds of muscle. Thomas seem to hurt himself more than who he was tackling. If his assignment turns up field he may not be able to cover properly.

Both? Thomas for sure. This still has a chance until he shows otherwise.
Hopefully Brooks has serious quickness and anticipation to offset his lack of foot speed.

Thomas’ problem was between the ears.

Idk. Just seems to come off as a throwaway player.

Special teams / developmental player. Exactly what you’d expect in the sixth round. Hopefully the guy can play in time.

Would rather they had taken a DB or ILB in the fourth and a running back here but glad to have him on board.

Players that are drafted after the third round are busts, until they prove otherwise. Just how I look at them. Players drafted in the first three rounds should make the team, unless they prove they were a mistake.

People drafted after the 3rd don’t really fit the bust definition.

Depends on individual interpretation. I was just giving my version. To each his own.

I don't know enough regarding how he would translate in the NFL speed-wise, but I can tell you that he is the anti Mark Barron. Played his butt off and simply made plays in both clutch, big spots and late in blowouts during the November games of 3-9 seasons. Some of his stops in space 1 on 1 on third down felt like watching some of the world class safeties Steelers fans have known and loved over the years. Very little protection up front with a small D-line, particularly in 2018-2019 going up against maulers at Wisconsin, OSU, Penn State etc. A clubhouse and fan favorite for years, overcame adversity etc.

There are numerous players drafted after the 3rd round that turn out to be elite players and many that are busts that are picked in the top 3 rounds. I know you covered that basis though by proving otherwise but even UDFA's are often playing Sunday Football.

Marcus is getting a needed push it seems. Battle between those two. Let the chips fall where they may.

Regarding Antonie Brooks though, multi role heavy hitter but best to keep him floating around in the box. Asking him to perform any coverage duties for this season is asking for trouble. Keeping everything in front of him will be paramount.

    Definitely a Special Teams Ace.

Can never have too many safeties.

The Maryland connection is a little ponderous.

UDFA's have the biggest chip on their shoulders and have a lot more to prove than those drafted, naturally. Harrison is one of those that was able to break in to the club and flourish. The lower your draft round the less likely they make it in the NFL (at least that is what I saw on a matrix on the subject when I googled it).

Is he yet another lineback disguised as a safety?

According to Lance Zierlein on NFL.com Brooks makes up for his lack of speed with an outstanding ability to make pre-snap reads. Brooks is a former QB and has a good idea of what the offense is going to do based on how they line up.

In todays league, you need that versatility, the trick is being good at both. At first glance he would seem more LB than safety but saw some clips of him doing good things in coverage, so we’ll see. They’ve been trying to hit on the hybrid for a while, hopefully they have something in Brooks.
