The Steelers won't be picking tonight, unless they trade up in the first round, yeah that's not happening. I expect a lot of trades in the first round, I think the tv production is going to suck though, a bunch of guys doing analysis at their homes.

They NFL actually had a mock draft Monday where the teams made selections and some teams were required to make trades just to see if the system worked.

From everything I read, it did not go as planned. Or hoped. Tonight could be highly entertaining or dull as hell, especially without having a first round pick.

There is the very real possibility that it will be a disaster of Biblical proportions. So I'll watch.

    https://steelersdepot.com/2020/04/c...r-into-draft-decisions-about-skill-positions/

Interesting take by Colbert. We already knew not to judge the skill positions based on last years circumstances but it’s interesting to hear him say it. Makes you think RB or WR may not be as high on the list as we’re thinking. That clearly puts both LB positions in play along with OL ,and yes even S as potential picks at 49 as well. It may very well boil down to BPA at the time.

I have been reading some things about the steelers preference of using corners to run deep and allow minka to be used in different ways. I guess more or better ball skills with corners instead of true safeties. Two that fit this mold are dantzler and aj green whom the steelers have visited with. Bryce hall fits this mold as well. Then they have also met with two safety- linebacker types, again giving them the better cover skills along with in the box tackling skills. Muse and Austin hall. From past experience mt holds true to his the more you can do philosophy.

I've never been less hyped for the draft. With everything that's going on, and us missing the playoff's again, yet having like 1 pick in the fist 200 picks, and the draft is going to be a lame presentation. Plus, there's not many prospects that i'm excited about that might make it to #49. Usually the day of the draft, I'm nervous all day. lol It was yesterday that I realized that today was the draft. I've never been less connected to the process.

Does anything out of the ordinary that happens tonight... Impact what we do tomorrow?

The only thing I see, And it's about 5% likely to happen imo...Is that rumor ( that most have shot down ) Is JuJu to the 49'ers for the 31st pick...

IF this would happen, I would assume WR with one of our 1st 2 picks

What do you all think will be the TV ratings for the first round? I wonder if the NFL can hit 10 million viewers? With the draft being a live event, it may do well, since we haven't watched a live sporting event in over a month. On the other hand, watching the talking heads can get pretty boring with all the glitz that usually comes with the draft, so the draft may be even more boring than ever.

I am curious to see what football memorabilia Goodell has in his basement.

I’m looking forward to it. Obviously, not picking in the first rd dampens it but I still love seeing where all the players I’ve been pouring over the last several months end up and of course hoping the players I like the most don’t end up on the teams I hate the most :lolol:

The Ravens pick a lot of the same type players that the Steelers do. One thing we often see is a team drafting specifically to combat an opponent in the division. This is why if the BPA tomorrow is a player that can help slow down Lamar Jackson, you draft him instead of a lesser offensive player. This is why I wanted Blacklock in the TSF mock draft. He was the best BPA and could help slow down the Ravens running game. Teams have to win the division first.

I expect the Steelers to draft a Clemson player or two, that was the only pro day they were able to attend.

It’s possible but I think we have enough in house on the DL to where I wouldn’t think we need to spend our highest pick on one. We would be looking at more of a NT I think and 49 is too high for that. Jmo

I know most people expect the Steelers to draft offense at #49, but if Wisconsin LB Zack Baun was there that would be tempting, he can play OLB and ILB.

Yeah, I'll be watching. In fact, I'll be hosting a Zoom video conference tonight with some of the guys that I typically watch the draft with.

Yeah, tempting indeed. However, I've run a handful of mocks drafts on Fanspeak (maybe 10-15 times so far) using several different big boards, and he's never been available at #49. I think the latest I saw him go was the 2nd or 3rd pick of round 2. Doesn't mean that reality will follow that track, but he seems to be held in pretty high regard by just about everyone who rates prospects.

AR2 was talking running game again, so with the signing of Derek Watt I'm thinking they go rb at 49 and it will probably be Taylor.

Edit: that is if they don't pull the trigger on a Fournette trade.

Savaren was saying yesterday that the last rb taken 1st overall was Kijana Carter and the last WR taken 1st overall was Keyshawn Johnson. Kinda screams out what the trends in drafts have been since the 90's

I meant total players at that position being taken in the entire round 1.

    Didn't mean draft slot.
