Jones was actually a fantastic draft pick. The mistake was being too inflexible to use him.

Kolodziejski was just bad luck. He blew out his knee as a rookie and never made it back.

It’s not like they passed on Marino and drafted Joe Bazooka. Gabe Rivera was showing signs that he was going to be a dominant defensive lineman.

    Unfortunately.......

That is the part people tend to dismiss. The choice looks worse due to the misfortune that kept us from finding out what kind of player Rivera could have been.

Vrabel was starting to come alive his last year here. Vrabel was a smart instinctive player. I would say a borderline hall of famer that we let walk.

How much more of a mistake can there be?

Cutting an actual Hall of Famer line Unitas comes to mind. Vrabel was a very good player, but Hall of Fame? Not even close.

Yep. Vrabel pretty much won the playoff game for the Steelers vs. Patriots in '98 with that strip fumble of Bledsoe.

Vrabel played four years for the Steelers and did not start a single game. He had seven regular-season sacks. Yes, he made one big play in a postseason victory over the pre-Brady Patriots. Yes, the Steelers messed up by not finding creative ways to get more out of him. Then again, they had Jason Gildon and Joey Porter at outside linebacker with Levon Kirkland and Earl Holmes inside, so it's not like he was sitting behind scrubs.

Vrabel was good player, but in no way was letting him leave as a free agent in the same realm of mistake as errors such as passing on Marino or cutting Unitas.

If we kept O'ddonell do you think we would have made Superbowl the next year vs the Packers. I feel we would have.

Do you think we could have beat them? I know he gets a lot of hate, but I didn't want to get rid of him.

They didn't get rid of him. He was a free agent and the Jets gave him a ridiculous contract.

I remember NOD saying at the time that Foster was supposed to turn and catch the ball at the one yard line and then run into the endzone with it. Instead he ran his route a yard or two too deep. I never heard Foster's version of the play so who knows what the truth is.

O'dumpster was practically signed by the JETS when he was playing in SB XXX.

I'm not a huge MT backer but he is far from the biggest mistake. 2 SB's, 1 Lombardi. Other teams would kill for those achievements.

The only coach not named Bill Belichick to not post losing seasons since 2007 is considered a mistake?! Keep in mind that coaches like John Harbaugh and Sean Payton have had losing seasons, the latter even more impressive given the fact that he has had a HOF QB in Drew Brees during those losing seasons; something many Tomlin detractors berate him for but praise Sean Payton. For that matter, given the fact that Bill Cowher JUST got inducted into Canton, assuming Mike Tomlin wins one more Super Bowl, do you really believe that Canton will overlook a resume like Tomlin's regardless of what happens afterwards?!

Mike Tomlin is near the BOTTOM of the barrel of issues in Steelers History since the AFL-NFL merger to be constituted as a mistake.

Myles Garrett attempted too... then impersonated Jessie Smollet pretty well.

I am not. As arrogant is this will sound, I really do not need to. Not because I do not think that Bill Belichick will post a losing season but the AFC East has now caught up to New England.... after only taking 2 DECADES to do so I might add. Even if Bill Belichick throws the war chest for Tua Tagovailoa like I believe he will, makes no difference to me as Tua is a far bigger risk than most are willing to admit.

Tua is without question a Top 5 talent but he carries immense risk to him as well. That has never stopped Bill though from taking someone he wants. No reason to assume this year will be the year to change his ways.

I don't think Bill will take "that" risk because there is too much long lasting effect. He has taken risk on guys who were out of any long term contractual commitment, I don't see him selling the house for a rookie with as much potential risk as Tua has.

Not only a question of how good he would have been elsewhere, but missing out on the GOAT in the sixth round isn't like missing out on a sure thing.

That's an interesting take on Haley which I never thought of. I hated Haley before he came to the Steelers because he was a cancer everywhere he went. I think Haley was fortunate to be with the Steelers rather than the other way round.
