I saw that, but it hasn't been announced by other media people like Schefter, that's why I was skeptical.

NFL Draft still on -- but league says it'll be closed to the public

    by Joe Vitale

With very little left to look forward to in the sports world over the next few weeks, football fans have kept their fingers crossed in hopes that the NFL Draft will still take place as planned in Las Vegas.

With the CDC recommending limited crowd sizes as the Coronavirus pandemic spreads, the league announced that the draft will still take place, however, the event will be closed to the public.

The draft is still scheduled to happen April 23-25, the NFL announced on Monday. It will be televised.

I remember before the draft was televised back in the 1960's. I had to listen to KDKA AM who would announce who the Steelers drafted but no other players or teams were mentioned.
I would have to wait until the next day and buy the Pittsburgh Press to read about who all the other teams had drafted.

The NFL has said they will keep the draft on the current dates in April, but it will be televised from a studio. I say this is a good thing we don't need that stupid red carpet crap, now we might get more highlights and analysis of the picks.

This is what I was hoping for. Pushing it back a few weeks into May wasn’t going to accomplish anything.

It is a shame, I think it would have been a helluva time in Vegas. Show place of America if not the world.

NFL wants April draft to go on as scheduled despite GMs' recommendation

    Adam Schefter / Dianna Russini

The NFL plans to stick with its original April 23-25 schedule for this year's draft despite a recommendation from the league's general manager subcommittee to commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday that it be moved back due to the COVID-19 pandemic, league sources said.

Hooey balooey. The biggest obstacle is physicals but many of them already passed physicals at the Combine. You can conduct virtual interviews, it’s 2020 for crying out loud.

How far are you going to push it back to? This thing won’t be over in May and pushing the draft back further than that will interfere with camps.

Latest on this years draft, it will go on the original date and Goodell threatens punishment on any of the nfls management going public criticizing the date set for the draft on april 23:

He wrote in the memo, "public discussion of issues relating to the Draft serves no useful purpose and is grounds for disciplinary action."

Have to side with Roger on this one. If the league is willing to sacrifice the money lost by cancelling the Vegas activities and still hold it, then good on them.

In todays world there is no reason it can‘t be held. It wont be the shiny event that it usually is but so what.

Just pick these college kids and quit hyping them up so much before they play a down. Maybe that will cure some of this deva behavior.

I'm glad it's going forward. Doesn't seem like anyone will be put at risk. Technology is there to do it.

I love the draft, however, what it's morphed into the past few years is a bit much for the tv viewer at home.

I agree, NB. As a home viewer, I think this will be just as good. It’s the people who like to go to the event that are missing out.

I’m looking forward to it and I think it is very much needed, a nice distraction in these difficult times.
