Yeah I don't know and with how much BJ loved the Steelers there has to be something more than just jumping at the first offer.

Sucks! The Steelers cant afford to have a subpar line with an aging Big Ben, coming off elbow surgery.

I think he had played his best ball when there are questions about the Olin . That being said a patchwork line is scary to think about

2 years $8m, I thought he would get more tbh, surely we could have matched that offer?

Matt Feiler to Guard confirmed. Have Chuks and Banner battle it out for the tackle spot. Either way, an Offensive Tackle is now likely in play for Round 2 if not 3. Ridiculously talented and deep class.

    Lucas Niang is the incumbent.

With Foster retiring, I thought for sure that money would just go toward Finney.

As I stated in the other thread, Finney's loyalty likely was worn out. He wanted to start. He got his chance.

I wish him all the best.

Man, I liked Finney...Evenmorso because he's young, and Pounceys old, overpaid, and sucked last year

Finney wasn't good at center last season, either, and he's going to be 29 by the time the season starts. I would rather they kept him, too, but I'm not sure this is a killer loss.

It's not because....of the retaining of Feiler and Banner

Feiler was certainly a much more important piece than Finney. I’m not so sure about Banner. Hopefully he can at least be a good third tackle.

This remind me of the '90s. When we would develop players and then lose them in free agency

derwin grey will be in the mix as well. The all important back-up center position is the big loss part about finney.

We will have to find one. Chuks and whomever is the backup to AV will be a critical position to watch in preseason. That LT spot and C/G backup spot will be critical for game day. Out of Gray and Banner and which one can do more will be interesting. Gray has the feet to play the left side plus he's a decent run blocker with some nasty.

Not impressed with Christian dilaurio from ill.. He was an off season addition. He played LT.
JC hassenaur is short and light as the only back-up center right now.

    Going to be interesting.

Even with Dupree, the Steelers could have afforded $8 for two years. Either they didn’t really want him back or he wanted out because he wasn’t starting.

Finney should have been kept. Chuks at tackle? Am I missing something or seeing something different than others regarding chuks? Every time I saw him play he either gets flagged multiple times for holding or allows sacks and tackles for loss, I honestly think they could do better. Banner is big but he is really slow is not going to do well either. Ben should consider retiring as the o-line hasn't looked this bad since 2005.

Let's hope that the O-line can somehow gel. It would be a real shame if Ben comes back strong but the line can't protect him.

I don’t know about the Ben retiring part....but I share the same concerns about the OL. I have very little confidence in either Banner or Chuks at Tackle. I wanted Finney back as well because he is both G and C. He was I believe 10-2 as a starter so I don’t think it was a matter of him not being wanted. I also don’t think it’s a simple as if they wanted him they would of kept him. More restructuring would need to be done and that’s not exactly the best route to go. We’ve seen enough restructuring already. OL can make or break our year. We need a major improvement on offense. We can’t expect the defense to be as good as they were last year. Of course the potential is there but we were very fortunate with health and opportunistic with the TOs. Those factors played a very significant role in our success on D last season. They’re not guaranteed...l

Between Feiler and Finney I wanted to keep Feiler.

Still stinks we lost Fred Johnson. I bet you one of the backups on the roster currently turn into a serviceable tackle for us.

I guess I'm more worried who the backup center will be...
