They aren't trading Tuitt, when healthy he's more valuable to them than Hargrave who will play about 40% of the snaps. At the beginning of last Tuitt was the nest player on defense, they shouldn't pay a NT that kind of money anywhere from $11-14 million a year.

Here's the problem with Tuitt. With no Tuitt, Hargrave's snap count goes up. Move him to the left side.
What odds do you give Tuitt to play 16/17 games next year? What about after we make the playoffs? My guess, 33.3% is optimistic.
    Hargrave? 90%.
Restructuring Tuitt would be learning nothing from the Woodley fiasco.

I would be open to trading Tuitt, he cannot stay healthy to get on field to make an impact. Move Allulu
over to Tuite spot and keep Hargraves and draft DL for depth. Let Bud walk into FA and draft
an OLB that can contribute from day one. Now you have cash to work with to sign Watt and Minkah.

I wouldn’t restructure Tuitt or any of our aging veterans. Tuitt is always hurt and even when “ healthy “ he is streaky.
Let’s not push any potential dead money into the future, that’s what has hurt us in the past. Too much uncertainty with Ben. He could lead us to a SB or his arm could fall off week 3. Try and lock up some of the younger key pieces like our RFAs keep the rest of the key components status quo. Try and balance the last 2 years Ben potentially has without mortgaging the future as well....jmo

On the talk of trading Tuitt: per Spotrac, his cap hit for 2020 is $14.94 million if he’s on our roster. It becomes $15.22 million if he’s cut or traded prior to June 1. I don’t know if it’s allowable to designate someone as a post June 1 cut/trade with the CBA expiring, or what the impact would be. Spotrac just says N/A for post June 1 impacts.

Essentially it would be a near wash from a cap perspective ($280k to the detriment) to trade him before factoring in the additional cap space that would be needed to sign an additional draft pick. I personally have very little doubt that - if healthy - Tuitt would help us more in 2020 than any player we’d be likely to get for whatever draft pick compensation he’s worth. Obviously the disclaimer is “if healthy,” which is very much in question for Tuitt given history.

They aren't going to pay a NT $10 million or more a year. Minkah just finished his second year, they have time to clear cap space before he's due a big deal.

I don’t know which site is right, but Spotrac has the numbers broken down, and they tie out. I’ve always trusted Spotrac more than OTC.

they reworked his last year. 2.71 mil. in salary into signing bonus. Added to the 15 sport trac had and that may be the difference. It would be pretty close. Either way it's a big cap hit and instead of saving any it would cost us 2+ million to cut him plus his cap hit this year. Next year is where we would save about 3 mil. With dead money as well. Now a trade if they take most of the salary might be a way to move him.

I'd hang on and hope he stays healthy finally. Added to this defense he will make a difference. Just not a lot of wiggle room this year and way too many uncertainties to make a call early. C B A ending may also change things.

Agree. I can’t think who would trade for Tuitt and take on most of that contract in any case given his injury history and the fact that there are plenty of defensive linemen available in free agency. We just have to hope he can give them a full season in 2020.

I like Tuitt & agree he brings A LOT to the table. I was also wrong to call him glass. Looking at his playing history for the Steelers, yes he does get hurt but has only missed a significant amount of time last year.

Actually the 2.71 million restructure of salary to bonus was done in 2018 (they also restructured 7.5 million of 2018 roster bonus at that same time). They converted 5.195 million of 2019 salary to bonus in June of 2019. Spotrac’s numbers include both the 2018 and 2019 restructurings, and tie out. Regardless, it’s pretty clear that he will be here next year (which is what I prefer anyway).

I think they are still paying Woodley :lolol:

Now Ben, Haden, Nelson, McDonald and Boswell restructured. So how many more restructures? Please. Robbing Peter to pay Paul. Sooner or later the dam will break. The Steelers entered the week as the only NFL team that had spent over the $198.2 million salary cap.

So you damn well better hope that Dopree is worth that 16 mill. Already the cap situation for next season is dire.

They will have to give Watt the 5th year extension next season. They won't be able to sign him long term until the following year and it's going to be a whopper. Ben will be off the books.

I read a couple articles this morning about the cap space the Steelers gained by restructuring Pouncey, Ben, McDonald, Boz, etc. One article said we now have 11M in cap space and one said 35M......gotta love Bleacher Report:smiley1:
