We'll see where the field general is at soon enough... Hoping for the best. Equally curious about the state of the D with tuitt health and the probable folks leaving for greener pastures. O line played pretty uninspiring ball... Age/injury/motivation etc... All can be argued. No cap room or picks to get wonky with and same blah blah inside the box thinking coordinators.

No expectations this upcoming season other than to root for OUR team in the same optimistic pattern I've always had.GO STEELERS!

He was clutch when he did play. Take the time & review some of the things he did when he was able to get on the field. Look at what he was doing in college, high school. He was a threat to reach the end zone whenever he touched the ball.

Good enough to get to the dance but can't bring home the hardware. They've proven that much. Jacksonville at home, in the playoffs, AFTER getting embarrassed in Pittsburgh during the regular season leaves one to question their heart & leadership when it counts.

Or they develop late, or our perform their size. The Steelers had 3 very promising young WR, Wallace, Sanders, and AB. They made the right choice in talent (sadly it went to his head later). Rarely are you going to find that talent in the 6th, but you can find that talent in smaller schools..as you say by scouting and doing intense research. The MAC gave us Ben, AB, and James Harrison..not bad. Now we have DJ, Ola, UG3. Spillane, Skipper, and Chuks all from the MAC. The jury is still out, but you cannot deny the talent and potential of all these guys.

"Pretty good back up"...and that is who? A couple of teams got lucky last year...who really thought Tannehill would ball like that, I thought Bridgewater would..and now he is going to make bank (as will Tannehill). Look at the list of FA QB's and most we cannot afford (or want to start), and the rest are just the same castaways. Even if you get a 'mature' vet, what are the real expectations? The O sucked, but still went 8-8 with a 2nd year b/u and a rookie. You might get another win or 2 out of some of those vet b/u's, or you may get as many turn over's. The reason they are in that position is just that..many will give you a couple of quality starts, hell Bubby Brister and Mike Tomczak did that...and then stunk up the joint the next few starts.

Ben deserves a lot of the blame for those 2 losses to Jax, I think he had 7 turnovers in those losses, the defense also wasn't good.

I’d have no issue with a calculated risk like like trading the 2021 1st round pick to trade up this year or get an additional 2nd if they think there is a difference maker there. I think they’ll have a comp pick or two in 2021 depending on Hargrave and Bud so they can probably afford to trade a few picks if needed.

I would not be on board with a reckless Texans type gamble where you trade away everything to try to win now. As others have said, I’m not sure the Steelers are particularly close to a championship team anyway. Maybe if they have a completely injury free season and the offence figures things out they can be very good but Superbowl? I don’t think so

It is all a matter of opinion, first off I have no Idea what these guys are going to make on the open market. With that said I feel a lot better with a guy like Mariota than I do with what we have now. Keenum is another I would look at yeah he sucked with the Redskins but who didn't? The year before he went 11-3 and took the Vikes to the NFCCG. I am not looking for these guys to be starters I am looking for insurance, we all have it and many times we don't use it but if we need it guess what it is there. I agree there isn't much out there as vet back up options but there are a couple.

As far as what do we expect from the back up well we missed the playoffs by 1 game. You have to get in to have a chance at the big picture annd look what happened. The team that beat us out went to the AFCCG, get in and anything can happen, that is my thinking. The way this D was playing they could carry us, heck I remember winning a SB with a QB who had the worst QB rating of SB history. If a back up is worth 1-2 more wins isn't it worth is if we can get a playoff run out of it? jmo

One last thing the whole we can't afford a guy is not correct. I have posted many times how these guys can save money through cuts, restructures and extensions.

The fault falls on everyone. A missed opportunity that seems like ground hog day. Ben needs a defense to carry part of the load. He needs a running back that can convert a third & one, fourth & one. He needs to provide more leadership in what plays to call, what plays not to call. Steelers needed someone to step up with a game changer on defense. Shazier was providing that, who else? Where was Cam? Dupree wasn't in a contract year. Alright I'm done ranting. :drinks:

Ben could have called it with a middle finger to the sidelines. Too comfortable in the shotgun.
"This is it Pouncey & Foster. I'm diving right behind you. Give me 1/2 a yard & I'll do the rest."
He is hard to take down, even for defensive linemen. When was the last time he was under center? Come on Ben..., demand it in the playbook. Fall forward, don't try dragging Calais 20 yards for the win. Tell AB he'll get another turn. Was it in his contract? "Sorry Popcorn, only shotgun for me." Who really knows?

Those two losses, and Ben's picks, always baffle me. So many times the QB looks silly when in fact it was the receiver who goofed, and trying to force the ball to AB didn't help either.

    1. I think Ben's being "hard to tackle" is one on one, not sure how he would do pushing the pile, but he is big enough to fall forward.
    2. Why is Ben using Cialis? And during a game no less?
