I'm not sure but how much do the other leagues rake in yearly in revenue? They do play many, many more games to recover their player salaries. One would think that there is less risk to guaranteed contracts with baseball & bball.
Side note, basketball use to be my favorite sport. Due to teams buying championships through acquiring all the best players, I soured on the whole shenanigans. Personally I agree with guaranteed contracts for football players but agree with the hard cap. Players would have to be willing to get less $$$ for that to be feasible in the NFL imo.

I don't get this? A few weeks ago, the owners were pushing for a quick agreement? Now they want the proposal they drafted to fail?

 

Keep in mind it says some owners. Apparently the majority want what is proposed and think it’s a good negotiation. There are some players who don’t like the agreement. They think they should get better. But the majority of player reps are for it.

Put the left and right together and you would never have an agreement. The majority in the middle, came up with a compromise.

Too bad the Republicans and Democrats can’t do this.

They play these players like suckered everytime. The players can't unite together to have one voice, one agenda, and one winning result for them. The owners and commissioner does a great job of divide and conquer.

 

Side "A" has some of the strongest business people in the world.

Really? How will all these poor saps live? The lowest prices player makes 510,000 for half a years work. Most have had there college education paid for. In fla. they pay no state tax. Most of us would sign the contract at that money. I know I would.

Well, you actually got about a third of this correct.

You are correct on side A.

You are wrong on aside B. In order to play in the NFL you have to have graduated high school. More specifically, 50% of the players have graduated college.

You are wrong on the revenue as well. After expenses, the owners wind up with about 8%. That’s not even a very good NI for a firm.

Quite frankly, the players 47% is too high and should be reduced. If the players want better benefits, that needs to come out of the 47%.

The NFL is what it is because of Goodell and the owners, not the players. The players are widgets that can easily be replaced. The average widget last less than 4 years before it doesn’t work.

 

I was actually being somewhat sarcastic. But not completely.....getting a diploma from high school when you are a star football player, doesn't necessarily mean you are educated to the 12th grade level. Same applies to college, maybe worse.

I'm curious where you got the 8% NI? Typically, in a high profile business, employee wages is the single largest expense by far.

There is no question that the owners make the league and not the players, as it should be.

It is a negotiating tactic by the owners. They leak the idea that some of the owners want the current deal to fail so they can offer up something even worse for the players as a way to try to intimidate the players into taking the current deal. It's very transparent, but given the past failures by the player's union, it could work.

 

Wouldn't the players be replaced with others players Without the players .... there is No nfl. Owners and commissioner would have no one to make money for them
