Meaning division winners at 8-8 shouldnt get a home game vs a 12-4 wild card. What say you

Only if they develop an algorithm that factors in the strength of schedule/record of their own Division. Look at NE all these years of having such a fluff schedule against the sorry teams in their own Division and usually finishing 12-4 or better. It's not as simple as just comparing overall Conference records. Division has to count for something. It's like the two guys being chased by a bear and one guy says I sure hope we can outrun that bear and the other guy says, forget the bear, I just hope I can outrun you!

Don't expect the Steelers FO to get behind this. The Rooneys know they will be able to sell a lot of hot dogs and beer behind Mikes 8-8 records.

I say keep it as it is. Winning your division should be awarded a home game for both the players & the fans. Wildcard? You aren't clutch & it shows.

The point about the fans is a good one plus, I don't think it would fair because there are wildly differing levels of talent in divisions. I have seen 8-8 or 9-7 division winners who had a tough road to get there and then I have seen 8-8 or 9-7 division winners who fell into the category of "someone has to win the division"

It's all relative. If you can't win your division you deserve to be the wildcard without a home playoff game, just sayin.

I’m leaning towards record + strength of schedule tiebreaker for seeding

I think you keep the division winners and two wild cards just the way they are. If you can’t win your division with 6 divisional games then you have no business getting preferential treatment with a sos adjustment.

I also don’t care for the proposed 3rd wild card team.... don’t add more mediocrity to the playoffs. As it stands now there’s real chances of an 8-8 or 7-9 team making the cut..... don’t make it worse.

It's done. Why don't they just let everyone in the playoffs?

Have a 18 game regular season, followed by double elimination, blind draw, tournament with all teams making the playoffs, followed by a single elimination tournament with all teams making the playoffs, followed by participation trophies for everyone.....yipeeeee!

I agree..if you are going to have a divisional format, it has to count for something. If you do away with that format, then you also lose the appeal and importance of rivals within the division. With the Pat's dominance in their division the rivalry's may be less appreciated there, but in most divisions even when teams are down the natural 'hatred' and history often make teams play harder to defeat their rivals.

Yep, winning your division isn't a show of how great you are or how good/bad your division is at padding your w-l record, it's about taking care of business & should be rewarded.

I don't like adding another team to the mix. That risk the possibility of a team with a losing record making it into the playoffs. My thought is if they are going to revamp the playoffs, not team should enter the playoffs with a 7-9 record as did the Cardinals and the Seahawks did a few years back. Although they won their division, I think that division should forfeit their spot and it should go to another team in a division with a winning record (or a non-losing record such as 8-8 would be sufficient). I understand any given Sunday a bad team could beat a better team as the 2019 Dolphins did with the Patriots. However, I do not like watching a bad team advance in the playoffs.
