These guys seem to be unhappy with most aspects of the Steelers. Not sure why they’re still fans of the team?

He's not concerned because 1) those tickets are paid for already, so why does he care if they show up? and 2) It really isn't much of an abnormal year. 2019 was their lowest attendance since 2014 but over that last 14 years, they've averaged around 62,400 regardless of capacity. So they really only averaged 200 people less per game this year. As far as 5000 empty seats, before the expansion in 2015 there would only be 2,000 empty seats with current attendance. And again why would Rooney care? Those 3,000 extra seats generated Im sure 5 or 6 million in PSLs and continue to generate another 3 millionish/year in ticket sales.

I suspect attendance is down league wide. I also suspect that there are numerous reasons for this.

    Ticket and concession prices......'nuff said.

Sunday Ticket....why drive a couple hundred miles in the winter when you can watch at home?

No smoking sections....smokers don't want to go 3-4 hours without smoking. Used to be they could smoke in their seats or stand in a smoking area for a quick smoke.

NFL boycott over the kneeling during the National Anthem.....the league is pretending that this issue is over but more people have quit on the NFL than the league is admitting.

Player antics.....TD celebrations and other "look at me" BS. Some fans get a chuckle over this but its a turn off for some others.

The internet...with all the free porn out there who has time for going to a football game? Speaking for a friend.

The game quality going down. ...... Penalty flags every other play.

DVRs.....I never watch the game in real time. I record the game and start watching about 1 1/2 hours after start time so I can skip commercials, halftime, and such. Saves about an hour of my time.

These are just some of the factors. Combined, they put a serious dent on attendance. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm getting back to the aforementioned porn.

The no smoking policy doesn’t stop people. They’re always huddled up by the outer walls of the stadium.
Also that’s a good list. Although Heinz Field is sold out. Not sure why people buy tickets pay the money, but don’t go?
I think their challenge is to find a way to get the tickets into the hands of people who will go.

I got to go to a Warriors game when I was stationed on Oahu in the early 90's , the Pro Bowl as well. Chill atmosphere but also a beautiful stadium.

Nah, it's the trolls who set their expectations unrealistically high, like expecting the Steelers to still make the playoffs despite losing their HOF quarterback for 15 games and getting pissed when they don't.

They should put a cap on the number of no shows a season ticket holder may have. If you are a no show for a set number of games in a season, then you lose your season ticket rights. Give them to the next person on the wait list who wants them and will go to the game.

At one point wasn't Nutting using the shared revenue in MLB to pay for his teams salary and keeping any non shared revenue to himself even jettisoning talent to be able to stay below the line and make the richer teams pay for his team?

If you are okay with comparing our former outstanding ownership to one of the worst in the league and being happy that Art II is somewhere in between, then you should be happy. I am not, Art II has had all the help in the world from his grand-dad and his dad and is making a mess of the Steelers.

But like I said if you are happy as long as we aren't the worst, then good for you, I want better than that.

No **** Sherlock. I'm speaking in terms of gameday at the actual stadium. They make most of their money at concessions. Way more than tickets sold or merchandise sold at stadium.

This may not be a popular post, but Art Sr who was a heck of a gentleman was a not a very good team owner. His teams sucked worse than being 8-8. It was not until Dan took the reigns that the Steelers started winning.

Dan hired Chuck Noll, not Art Sr.

I do believe Dan was better than Art II. But Dan was one of the all time best.

I really don't care if they make or lose money, the thing that irritates me is the number of people that choose to stand and watch from the rotunda ramps, or the people that never make it back from halftime because they are watching or listening to the broadcast in the stadium. Makes little sense to me, I feel that our "home field" advantage has become neutral. True that we can occupy a major percent of many road stadiums..... but our home fans appear to have become disinterested. (yeah I know 8-8 and combo of duck/rudolph doesn't help matters)

Fair enough! And you may be one of the few here old enough to remember better than I do but I guess I was giving the old man credit for building what Dan inherited but after a bit of review, that may not be the case.

I’ll pass along a funny story since I can squeeze it in here. Art lived on the north side bordering the Manchester neighborhood of Pittsburgh. For those who aren’t familiar, that was a rough area back in the 60’s and 70’s. Art walked to work every day. He talked to everyone. Someone asked if he was afraid to be walking alone? He replied “Who in Pittsburgh would mug Art Rooney”.

I've watched Pittsburgh sports my whole life, if you want high attendance be a winner.

Of course some gave up on the season after a 1-4 start.

It's been like that for years, if you good and something is on the line it will be full to the rafters with fans.

If not some don't show up.

I can honestly say I was enthralled by Art; he just had an aura about him. I was in the service for the first three Super Bowls and I worked in a top secret compound which was on call 24/7 365 days a year. I remember telling my NCIOC that I could "NOT" be reached for those 4 or 5 hours for SB IX, and he could court marshal me if he had to.

    Thankfully, all was calm.
