Would not be worried if I was Art Rooney II the same. Big Ben being hurt had a more profound effect on that than others are willing to admit. Those low temps in Pittsburgh are also an issue unless you live in cold weather cities or nations (like yours truly).

All that said, I would imagine that Art Rooney II did have a good season in terms of revenue and profit overall. 63k fans is still nothing to scoff at. Hopefully that number increases to 65k come 2020.

NFL is so behind the times. Out pricing real fans to get in when you make a majority of your money at concessions. Quick math...

5,000 x lets say the each person spends a modest $50 per = 250k x 8 = 2 million. But honestly it would probably be 3 or 4 times that much.

Better product on TV. Loyal/returning fans.

I was more disappointed on how lame Heinz is and it not being a true home field advantage compared to the Rats. Haven't been to either so I don't know how accurate this dude is. Maybe somebody on here can give first hand experience. Also, only 22 times since 1970 the seats were completely filled. I was taken aback by that a litte with all the great teams we've had. I understand that some people are there but not in their seats but my question is WHY? They can socialize at a freaking bar after the game?

In a 68,000 seat stadium I can see where 5000 people would be out of their seats and in the head at any given time. And, they'd all be in front of me!

If I read correctly the seats were sold but people just didn't show up.

Pittsburgh population is small compared to major cities. Baltimore has almost double. Plus, the Maryland area has 6 million people. Probably a 50 min < drive for all of them to get to stadium.

We also got a lot of diehard/older season ticket holders. That's why I've said 1pm games are boring. 4pm is a lot better and night games are the best. Only real atmosphere we've had the last few years is against the Patriots.

I’ve been doing this so long that I’m out of my seat and halfway up the steps before the ref calls the timeout. I go into an empty bathroom, go to a beer vendor with no line, and get back in my seat before many people are just getting up to go.

but the the University of Hawaii games aren't like the opportunity to go to a Steelers game which I do want to do again soon...

I do the same thing. It's smart. If more people were like us, the stadium wouldn't look half empty at times.

Seems Rooney isn't worried about anything anymore... Attendence down, Performance way down..." Everything is great, nothing to see here, we're the Pittsburgh Steelers, We don't have to change anything, do you know how many coaches we have had "

The weakest of the Rooney's by FAR...Owner is weak and SATISFIED!

Low temperatures in Pittsburgh? Does the weather get colder than it was in the " old " days? If anything....the weather during our winter's are much " milder " these past few years than they've ever been...I really don't understand this take at all

You are so far off base it’s rather sad. Teams make the majority of their money from revenue sharing(television). Coming in second place is merchandise. Concessions is way down the list.

I honestly hate it when Rooney speaks! He just seems to be brain dead when it comes to Steeler football.

There are so many reasons why Steeler fans are blase' these days. Some injury, some lack of discipline, some talent loss, some sneaky feeling of a downfall in ownership, etc.

If asked the right question, Rooney would probably be okay with our playoff performance the last couple years.

The Steelers are a small market team. As such, I believe they need to remain competitive even in the down years to have sustained financial success. Meaning they have to keep people in the seats at the stadium even in the down years. They also need to remain competitive in the down years to keep the team in Pittsburgh in these uncertain times of teams leaving cities for greener financial pastures.

Give me Art II over a owner like Jerry Jones any day, Jones the only owner with his own radio show, and he has to talk to the press after every game .

It's still a lot of money no matter how you want to rank them.

It’s a lot of money to you and I, but it’s a minor part of their income. It’s something like 3-5million in sales. There’s also a significant overhead.

If Bob Nutting is making money with the Pittsburgh Pirates I'm sure Rooney is making money with the Steelers.
