Okay, you are now the Steeler GM/DFO[Director of Field Operations] and have reviewed the season, assessed the team from every angle possible and are drawing up plans for the upcoming draft, looked over the FA listings and met with everyone that GM's do?? etc. Got input from everyone GM's do?? Now you're ready for action.

Well there it is. What are you going to do? [No frivilous comments needed, I'm the one going on a worldwide vacation.]:smiley1:

Also no Firing of coaches [at this time] confine your strategy to dealings with players [keep, let go] FA [keep, let go] and areas of the team you believe need special addressing.

    Go! Win us a championship.

Take Steely McBeam to the retirement home.

    Bring back block letters.

Lock Ben in the team facilities with nothing but exercise equipment and healthy food.

These are players that several fans have suggested replacing. I am inclined to agree with them.

But I am finding the following hard to believe but the #'s are accurate.

    accurate from spotrac.com
    -------------------------salary----------cap hit
    Vance McDonald TE $5,500,000 $7,127,500

    A Chickillo OLB $4,500,000 $6,097,500

    Ramon Foster G $4,000,000 $5,575,000

not sure about this but these are 2 UFA on spotrac

    Kyle Van Noy ILB $4,250,000
Van Noy's 2019 current $6,291,668 cap figure is broken down: Salary: $4,250,000. copy from google

    Cory Littleton ILB $3,095,000
2019 Rams $3,095,000 copy from google

Everyone keeps saying their is no cap room and the FO is always crying poor I don't get it.
    QUESTION??
If just those 3 Steelers are gone is that 18M bucks to work with if needed or desired?? And is it possible that Chickillo made more loot than both those UFA's last year?

Edit: Ehh! That can't be right. I googled the Q and found a video 2 easy ways to add cap space. Didn't help me.

Some sites have their resident cap expert. I never paid attention to this stuff before but now i'm curious.

But anyhow their salaries are 13M. I suppose that could be used to acquire a FA.

Chicks contract was backloaded so he didn’t earn that much last year, same as Nelson, Vince, Ben, Haden, Heyward and others. Their cap hit increases significantly in 2020. This is just creative accounting that the Steelers use to try to stay ahead of the cap year to year. It has really caught up with them this year though, and Bens monster contract gives them very little wriggle room on top of that.

Cutting the three players you mentioned saves $14m, I.e. only the salary portion. They have already been paid the rest in the form of a signing bonus.

I wish I was. We would of had Dobbs and Metcalf this year and most definitely made the playoffs.

    Got it!

TY: That figures. I did a little searching around and found someone who said he added 24M. He cut 6 players [the three everyone here seems to be letting go] and the punter , Barron. and a DL that others did not agree with. He said it added 24M. I just checked spotrac and that was the exact amount of their salaries.

I'm going to let this go now because what is more important is knowing your target. And just as I thought there always is a way of getting the money.

The problem with doing business the way the Steelers (and others) do is there is always a hell of a 'payday' against the cap in the future. They can move, and redo contracts to get to 30 million this year if they want, but lets be honest what that 30 mill gets you. Colbert likes to keep 5 mill in reserve..so lets cut to 25, no 1st rounder this year, but rookie class still 4 to 5 mill. Now down to 20. Franchise Bud...uh oh down to 4 or 5 mill already. Even if you do not fracnshise him..if they sign and keep some of their own players there is no room for a major FA, let alone mid level guys.

Don’t sell yourself short. The NFL would have probably just awarded us the Lombardi after Week 14 and shut down the rest of the season.

For me it is all about getting hot cheerleaders. That way when Ben pisses us off for being too old and slow the men fans who paid good money have something to look at.

I can’t see them being in a comfortable cap position again until Ben retires. Pouncey, Heyward, Villanueva and Haden will all probably go around the same time as Ben, bringing about a major rebuild on both sides of the ball.

As soon as Tomlin would have named Dobbs the starting QB, the rest of the league would have just forfeited the rest of their games. They know that it would have been futile to compete against someone who sported a 52.7 QB rating in pre-season.

Agreed from a QB stand point (unless they seek to sign a FA), but in the next few years they will have to sign TJ and Minkah, as well as other guys. The Steelers are rarely in Cap heaven, but I see your point. Key in rebuilding is getting that productive young QB on a rookie contract, while have other pieces in place. A hard task indeed.

    No one under 5’10”.

    Draft 2.

Keep 2 of our current Pee Wee Squad RBs.

Here is what I think they do....

    Restructure as many as possible
    Offer Bud 4yr/48mil
    Let Hargrave walk
Tender Hilton as a 2nd rounder
    Cut Barron
    Cut Chick
    Re-sign Dirty Red - minimum
    Cut McCullers
Gamble on the defensive side - Cut Alualu and bank on Buggs and a returning Tuitt (save 2.8 mil If I'm reading it right lol)

    Re-sign Vannett - minimum
    Cut Foster
    Re-sign Finney
Gamble on the offensive side - Cut McDonald. The team is 2nd to last in cap room and maybe they re-sign later at a better deal when and if he is available during camp.

FA signings - mid tier defensive tackle and a TE (Logan Thomas?)

QB - no change depending on Ben's prognosis
    RB - no change
    WR - no change
TE - Cut Vanimal, re-sign Vannett, get a FA
OL - Cut Foster, re-sign Finney, sign Banner

    LS - Sign Canaday

    S - No change
    CB - tender Hilton
LB - sign Dupree, cut Chick and Barron, sign Dirty Red
DL - Cut Alualu, McCullers, Hargrave signs elsewhere, get FA DT

    Draft

    2nd - best OL available
    3rd Comp - DT
    4th - BPA
    4th - BPA
    6th - BPA
    7th - BPA

Need a S and TE in one of the BPA picks.

It's not going to be a shiny exciting draft. Except some lineman and TEs and depth players. But they will round out the roster.
