Well, I've posted a few times about Tomlin. Again, not trying to pile on, but when you can't beat Tim Tebow, David Garrard, Blake Bortles in the playoffs (2 at home), that says alot. 2 of those guys only have 2 career playoff wins total and both against the Steelers. If you can't beat THOSE guys in the playoffs, how are you gonna beat Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady in the playoffs, let alone whoever you would face in the SB from the NFC if you got there? I mean, seriously, Tebow, Garrard, Bortles!?! It doesn't get any easier from them. At least Cowher beat Manning, albeit only once, but the best win of my fan-hood! ;)

To me, that's RED flags to the reddest. I know that doesn't mean much, but that is a serious issue when you can't beat the lesser echelon of quarterbacks in the playoffs. If you can't prepare your team for winnable games during the playoffs, then what the heck are you doing? I have no problem if the Steelers lost to the likes of Brady, Mahomes, Jackson in the playoffs. That's not an easy task for most of the league. But you HAVE to win the games versus the lackluster quarterbacks of the league. If you can't do that, then who cares what your regular season looks like. Even Marty Schottenheimer got fired regularly. Was he a bad coach? No, not really. But could you count on him during some of the bigger games? Eh, who knows? Some coaches have the switch and some don't. I don't think Tomlin has it in him. Tomlin is an "eh, if we get lucky and the stars align, we might win another Super Bowl coach". And you'll have to suffer losses to the likes of Tannehill, Darnold, Allen at times in the playoffs. My personal opinion.

And let's be honest, the main reason we went to the last two SBs is because NE didn't stand in our way. Granted a lot of teams can lay claim to the Pats ending their SB dreams. But you're right Tomlin is too much of a seat of the pants, we'll see what happens kind of coach. I've never gotten the impression ever that he goes the extra mile, even in the SB appearances. It just seems like such a charade now.

And nice to meet someone else who isn't just content with "never a losing season", another meaningless statistic.

Don't go there. It's been this way for years. The same people want Tomlin gone but, can't come up with a legitimate replacement. Seems their opinion only goes as far as "anyone would be better than Popcorn" "Who? I don't work for the NFL!"

For the record, if Tomlin goes away, I'd be pleased as punch for the Rooneys to talk with San Francisco's DC.

What's not to understand? I don't know who the hot up and coming coaches are. They would know a hell of a lot better than me. But that doesn't mean the team shouldn't try to find one.

So, you just want Tomlin gone. To hell with who replaces him. How about Kitchens? He did such a good job in Cleveland! Garrett? How about Marvin Lewis? He can't win any playoff games either!

Robert Saleh is definitely intriguing. That pass defense is fierce. But would he make a good HC? Who the hell knows. I wouldn't fool myself into thinking the first coach they would hire after Tomlin will necessarily pan out. But that's part of the process to finding the next one who is good for your franchise.

Well, it's no fun whether you're 8-8 or 5-11 to me. It's almost like if you're 8-8, why can't you get to 10-6? What's holding you back? That's why I feel like there is something off. There's a disconnect. I personally think the players do just enough to keep their jobs because they know Tomlin isn't going to hold them accountable. It's a win-win situation for Tomlin to get to 8-8. Players are happy no one is grinding them, Tomlin keeps the streak going. Basically he's Marvin Lewis with the luck of having Big Ben win a Super Bowl for him. I'm living in Cincinnati now and people here were sick of Marvin Lewis because they knew at some point he's not going to get them over the hump. I'm all for hiring a new coach every few years when things are stagnant. Tomlin is basically like Herb Brooks without the substance to back up his talk.

They should know a heck of a lot better than you when it comes to finding a new coach, but when it comes to firing the current coach you know better than them? Ok got it.

I would try an Urban Meyer or Lincoln Riley. Robert Saleh seems like a great fit for the defensive mind.

I just did to your SF DC recommendation. And why do you always knee jerk and say MAYBE THEY SHOULD HIRE THE WORST COACHES IN THE WORLD! YOU WANT THAT?

Lol. No that's why I would expect them to do their homework before hiring someone. Do you have zero faith in management to do that? If you do then this team has worse problems than Tomlin.

I brought up the leash in another thread tonight and have done so over the years in many threads. I honestly don't know if Tomlin has too much or not enough of said leash in any facet of this team. That makes it hard to decipher if calling for his head is the proper thing to do honestly.

We've all questioned his print on staff/players year in and out... Is it all his call?

The in game hooey is easier I guess atleast until I have a player come out saying Rooney (ala Al Davis) is phoning in from his chair to change this or that. I don't think coach likes to ruffle feathers now is that his persona or is he being told what's up?

    IDK!!!

This team seems to remain competitive by bucking the odds or trends if you will, in the league but the change is catching up to them like it or not and will continue to do so.

If all he is, is a motivator type coach then that's fine. He needs to surround himself with X's and O's assistants and stay out of their way just as much as he don't reel in the funny pages type of coordinators we currently have under his command.

I tend to like Tomlin but question a lot of what transpires top to bottom... As I don't see situational ball transpiring week to week regardless of W's and L's.

It's all maddening as we witness around here... But none of us know who why or how and eventually back to why hahahahaha

They did their homework before they hired Tomlin too. I go to the worst case scenario because so many teams end up there when they change their coach every couple of years. Change of coach, change of philosophy, change of playbook, change of terminology, etc. Sounds rather confusing to ask your star players to have to learn a new offense or defense every couple of years.

It’s all of us,” he told reporters. “We gotta protect better. We gotta get open. We gotta make quick decisions. We gotta put them in better schematic opportunities.”

Hey at least Tomlin himself gets it. He’s actually familiar with the idea of putting players in a position to succeed. Some here should listen. It’s not always the players fault .
