Everybody on our team plays like crap in Oakland. We haven't won in Oakland since 1995. Is that a fair barometer?

Ok but you're making the huge assumption that even if the Steelers did beat Buffalo or the Jets this year that they also win the same games that they won with Rudolph and Duck. It's absurd to think that everything else would unfold the same.

Truth told, trading dobbs cost us a 4th rd pick that could've went elsewhere of use as the kid wasn't going to pan out period. Luckily enough in spite of his regressed value he still garnered a 5th rd trade value via Jacksonville... so hypothetically his being here could transition into something worthwhile yet.

Wasted pick translates into??? We shall see

I believe this is now the most disliked thread in the history of TheSteelersFans Message Board. Truly an incredible accomplishment given the fact that the previous record holder had berated one of the teams greatest players in Franco Harris and attempted to prove his reasoning as to why Harris was overrated; very unusual overall I might add. That thread was going to agitate quite a few notable members on this board for already disrespecting an all time great player

This thread however, is not about an All Time Steelers player at all. Instead, the thread's primary function is to attempt to generate a narrative to explain that the woes of the 2019 Pittsburgh Steelers stemmed from a former Fourth Round Quarterback that was traded; our season ending shortly after the trade. From there, intense usage of the Confirmation Bias is applied via a comparison of a Quarterback who had won the Heisman.

Either way though, this is truly an impressive feat. I am quite shocked in all seriousness. Never in my time here have I witnessed such a firm stance on a depth player cause so much angst!!

I’m actually not surprised at the accomplishment at all. In the arena of hyperbole there is none better....:smiley1:

Depth player we spent 3 years developing. We needed 1 more win for playoffs in a year we went all in and traded our 1st. We are about to trot out our 4-5th string. Paxton Lynch, who we signed 3 months ago. 5th round pick was worth this? Look, I know I'm right.

I am curious if you feel this strongly about all 4th, 5th, and 6th round picks that get cut or traded after a few years. Your logic of “investment” would apply to all of these players as well.

I view later round picks as projects. You win some, you lose some. In the end, we got a pick back for what amounts to a backup QB. I didn’t see anything from Dobbs that would suggest that he was a long term answer at QB.

I’m not sure it is fair to characterize the Minkah trade as an all in situation. You build a roster through long-term planning. We got a player who will benefit us for years to come. This wasn’t a one or two year move (like hockey’s rental players).

The Minkah trade was simply, hey we suck at drafting dbs, let's try trading for a proven player instead.

Here's the thing... I'm not saying Dobbs was a long term answer. I'm saying I think he could have made some plays that helped us win the Bills or Jets game. That's it. We spent 3 years on him and lost the opportunity to see if he could do that for a 5th round pick. THATS THE ISSUE.

no worries, the Steelers are going to pick another player like Mike Webster with that 5th round pick this year.

oh wait, we don't have it anymore

But again let's say Dobbs starts and loses say the Chargers game, or gets hurt scrambling, or loses other games that Duck won who wouldn't be on the roster in this scenario. Or just plain sucks. You're only considering the outcomes that support your argument and they aren't likely given the randomness of sports.

Yeah, that's the other thing. We lost a 3 year developed QB when we needed him the most for 128 yards and 0 tds. I like Vannett but stupid.

Again, it could have gone either way and I would have liked to see for myself after 3 years instead of 128 yards and 0 tds.

Why do you keep saying “three years”?
