And finally, @STEELWINDS@STEELWINDS, I enjoyed the poem. Touching and poignant. Message me the entire poem, if you don't mind.

(I'm resisting the urge to take a jab at @Formerscribe@Formerscribe and say your poem invokes what I would think his mind is like when someone forgets a comma...wait, did I type that out loud? Oh shoot :hehehe:)

There once was a QB named Duck
Who finally ran out of luck
He got replaced by a Deer,
Who went out on his ear.

    Maybe there's playoffs next year.

    Hey The Glory Days.

OOOOkay I think: "Ode To That Bastard, BBH." BBH and I have been cool up to this point. I must admit the poem has returned quite a few responses. I never post with the intention to try to overshadow anyone. Just do my own thing. Writing has always been a passion of mine. Maybe I will post some of my other original pieces in the future if I continue to get the positive responses that this one seems to be generating. Hopefully, it can in part, provide an outlet for those who read it to at least temporarily "get away" from today's loss.

I am glad that it seems to be having a positive, and very diverse effect, on those who have responded. And hopefully to all in general. That is always a good thing. You know me Glory Days. I try to get some good dialogue going. Several people have asked if they could use it. Even after the loss today, which once again totally stinks.

My writing allows me a chance to be creative and take me to places to just cool-out. I am an "Observer" in a big sense. Often, I may walk past something and think nothing about it and for whatever reason several steps later, or at another point in time, I re-look and an idea surfaces. I guess that is kind of life in general. Different perspectives, as minor as they may be, can have major implications. Take care.

I'm glad you posted it. And I wasn't being negative towards @bigbenhotness@bigbenhotness. Hopefully it didn't come across that way. Just being silly.

    Hey TuRnDoWnForWaTT.

Thank you for the compliment. What happened that made you stop. It is not just poetry that I write. It can be excerpts minus the story if that makes sense, single-line expressions and songs among a variety of things. Actually, I am in the midst of writing songs for an Educational Rap" Album. I do not know your take on "Rap" Music, however, I am so sick of what I call "Crap Rap", which IMO dominates the industry today and has for well over 25+ years.

No offense to anyone here who likes the Rap music of today, this is just IMO. My songs have similar themes to today's rap Music but take an "Educational Twist" with a much higher level of vocabulary (which was the partial intention) that the listener must use context clues to be able to derive the meaning of the song and its message.

Words such as adjacent, martyr, self-preservation, embattlement and ramifications. Words that many of my students, as I tested my songs out on them, did not know the meaning of but eventually used the context clues to figure them out; which is one of the primary "Educational Objectives" to my songs.

However, even some of the original great pioneers of Rap music (Run-DMC, Whodini, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, etc.) from the late 70's and 80's stated some of the same things and their displeasure with todays "Rap Artists".

The same can be said, once again IMO, for just about every genre of music. I grew up as a kid in the 70s. Take "Rock" music for example. I love Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull (my favorite all-time group in that genre), Pink Floyd, and many others. I could go on all day about comparing eras and genres and my opinions.

I like all kinds of music and actually posted several links a while ago to a couple of today's songs that I totally love. I do a lot of multimedia production as a computer teacher and often use instrumental versions from songs for my productions.

I guess what did not make me feel so bias is my Step-Daughter who is around thirty, also stated the same things about music from the 70's and 80's and said today's music just is no where near as good. So, that made me, in part, feel that it is not just my subjective opinion that correlates with my 50+ age but also that of a much younger person who also sees some of the differences.

Like I have always stated, I respect everyone's opinion here (of course within reason) I just like to hear some feedback when discussing things here to solidify one's stance.

Gotcha'. Was not sure which way it was intended. Thanks for the clarification. I figured it was not negative. Knowing you as much as one can from a message board, and you in particular, it did not seem like your style (smile).

    Hey TuRnDoWnForWaTT.

Thank you for the compliment. What happened that made you stop? Man, it is crazy sometimes the power of a writing piece and when and how it applies. For "Ode to Autumn", it can, and does, mean many different things to different people. It can affect one person on the literal level of simply the changing of the seasons to a more critical and interpretative level.

One possibility of it on the critical/interpretative level, I am sure you noticed the phrase "Time waits for no one" is written several times each with a lighter text until it totally fades away with ……..

However, the point is that although we cannot stop time in a physical sense, the moment does eventually erode away but can still be relived and carried on over and over, etc., etc. no matter how much time passes as it will always reside in the depths of our minds; which is the beauty of memory.

It can be a "good", "bad", or "indifferent" event depending on who it is and their view of that event. Like when we won Super Bowl XLIII we here were rejoicing while at the other end of the spectrum were the "Haters" who wanted so bad for us to lose that game and almost did but we reclaimed it from the clutches of death.

Imagine how the Haters emotions, and ours, went from when the Cardinals took the lead and moments later Santonio Holmes and Ben bring us back from the "Proverbial Dead" with that phenomenal pass and catch in the end zone. What an emotional roller coaster that was in a matter of moments, for both sides. But for some like me, even 10 years later it still remains "Life-Altering. Fortunately for us, we came out on the good end of it all. Take care.

I'd respond but I'd hate to see "Hey Mojave Desert Pittsburgh Fan".............it's just way too vociferous for these rather pleasantly confined margins. With that said, how can anyone top "The Ode to Billy Joe", well at least when Bobby Gentry was sporting her flimsy hillbilly wear when crooning that famous Ode.

    Hey Mojave Desert Pittsburgh Fan,

I know what you mean. Its like Steelwinds is addressing someone personally and I really shouldn't be reading it or I feel excluded because it wasn't to the entire board. I always thought if you quoted someone, everyone knew where it was coming from, but now when Steelwinds addresses the person he is quoting, its like a reverse double positive. Then if he likes a post he is quoting is that a like, like, since he clicked like then addressed the poster personally? It makes me feel a little jealous.

Hey Steelwinds, I am just messing with you. (Oh, darn, I just did it myself). Hey bigbenhotness, The Glory Days, dobbler-33, Hanratty #5, Disco 1981, TurnDownForWatt, Ask Questions Later, SDOT, 86WardsWay, Steel Hog, defva, and jeh1856, this second paragraph is only for Steelwinds, so don't read it. Oops, I guess you can read it too, since I have now included you, but don't read the next paragraph.

Two hookers met at the corner, and one says to the other, "Which way to the john?" The other one replies, "Which one?"

I have to admit it would be fun to see formerscribe and The Glory Days, using a salutation to each other, before ripping into each other's posts.

Marriage, children, owning a business, coaching, life in general. As the burden of the life grew, the carefree spirit in me that enjoyed poetry and literature faded away.

I used to enjoy writing in general quite a bit. I used to write for a couple of websites back in the day, and have even been published in a few industry specific magazines. But that was some time ago. Now I just drunk post on here about the Steelers. You guys should all consider yourselves lucky when you get to read complete sentences I post. I'm suprised you guys put up with me. LOL:lolol::lolol::lolol:

    Hey Disco1981.

Thank you for getting back to me.

Yeah, I read about it. Well, at least there is a chance. I know it is apples and oranges in most ways but when we won Super Bowl XL, you may remember we had to win the last four regular season games just to get in as the last Wild Card team plus some help. And the rest as they say.... "Is History". I know that those teams are so different but the game still has to be played on a 100 yard field and between the lines. So, let us just see how this all unfolds and not give up the ship. As I say: We are still "Significant". Take care.

A short poem by my alter ego, Debbie Downer:

    To me Coach Tomlin
    and his players seem
    much less talented
    then the other teams

    At home in Pittsburgh
    I want to settle in
    but am quite certain
we are going to suck again

    Happy New Year!!

Edit: he also ate his paint. Reminded me of a bath water incident.

You're dating yourself, Mo. I'm no spring chicken and Ode To Billy Joe was recorded a year before I was born. ;)
