I’m not saying you’re wrong. To be fair he has to get credit. It’s all about perspective though, right? If he deserves credit he deserves blame as well when things go wrong. I give him credit for holding this team together this year. If you’re gonna give him credit for the schematics on the defense, he has to get blame for schematics on the offense. I don’t see him and he’s not exactly known as a X and O guy. Definitely not innovative for sure. I mean he drew a couple plays on a chalkboard and it almost made national news...lol. The ineptitude of the play calling and game planning on the offensive side is apparent. Does he get blame for signing off on some of this? Again he deserves credit for holding this team together but I chalk up the success of this defense to the fact we now have quality players at every position. Maybe he gets partial credit for signing Nelson and Minkah? I don’t know how much of a hand he had in that.

Me personally....I give almost all the credit to the players we have on D. It would be hard for anyone to screw this up(Butler) . We can’t quantify what adding Minkah did for this defense but if you look around there are 7 or 8 guys playing at a All-Pro/ProBowl level. Minkah,Nelson has solidified one of our biggest weaknesses. Dupree playing his best ever, by far. Haden playing great. Hilton has bounced back from a disappointing season last year. Cam playing not at a ProBowl level but All-Pro. Watt ...guy is amazing. Make leaps and bounds every season and he’s the leader of this D. Hargrave proving he always deserved more than they were giving him. Even Alualu is playing much closer to his draft status than he’s ever played before. ILB has been somewhat solidified as well.

The point I’m trying to make is it goes both ways. It can’t be well the players made mistakes that’s why they lost and not understanding that putting players in a position to succeed is a real thing. A failed plan is a failed plan and that falls in the lap of any HC. Like I said it’s about perspective. You can talk about all the players he lost and we’re still in contention. He gets credit for that, right? Then the same people who have defended his record against losing teams will say that the talent level in the NFL is basically the same(I know it’s not)So why is it so impressive we are where we are? Just to try and sum up my point up because it’s long winded already. It’s ok to give MT credit for his success and at the same time assign blame for his failures. It’s all about perspective and to each his own.

oh and there’s no threat of him going anywhere, which is fine. My biggest beef has been with his coordinators and the frustration of why they’re still employed here. Don’t know how much say he has in that. If he does he needs to make some changes. If he doesn’t I think it’s foolish..

With some of these fans including the OP if you don't win the SB with all these backups, then you should be fired .

Amazing what happens when you go from an HOF QB to a undrafted waiver wire QB, the best WR in football goes loonie, your fragile Pro Bowl RB keeps getting hurt, and your OL gets old.

Allen isn't polished enough to make the SB this year. Still makes mistakes.

They also went from one the worst defenses to one of the best but some reason you fail to mention. The reason? It doesn't fit your constant Tomlin hating rants. We get it you don't like Tomlin , so don't let facts get in the way.

That is a huge IF. I could agree if it happen though. Not real sure how much MT had to do with the Defense this year because I think it was more the GM including getting MF from Miami. It shouldn't take 5+ years and lots of 1st rounders to finally get a decent defense IMO. Since I don't know how they do things in the head shed there its hard for me to figure who is doing what for credit.

Yea if we don’t get MF and still have Sean Davis back there we are a middling defense with an improved Bud Dupree

So, is there anyone who could have done something to lessen the impact or have contingency plans or are we to say this is just bad luck and nothing could have been done?

Losing Munch wasn't the sole reason the OL is wrecked. The OL is old and it's finally caught up with them.

Bills have something many Super Bowl teams have had and most notably these past three; power run game and punishing defense. Those will carry you far into the NFL Playoffs. Should Josh Allen continue his steady level of play in addition to the defense being very stingy; they are the AFCs ultimate playoff spoilers.

Buffalo is TRULY a team NO ONE in the AFC wants to test in my book. One false move with the Bills and the opposition is going to go downhill fast. That was part of the reason we lost Sunday Night; a major one at that.

If super genius Bill Bellichek coached this team, could he have replaced Ben, AB, injuries to Connor, Samuels and Snell, and the aging of the OL? So if he couldn't have done something to lessen the impact or have contingency plans. I'm not sure who could?

Could the O be better? sure. But seriously, what are you expecting? The QB goes down, ok Mason heir apparent is there, he has a 1st round grade!, that's a contingency. AB flips out, the contingency was JuJu and Moncreif. Going into this season, no one on this board doubted that this would fill the AB gap. So there was a plan. Connor, Samuels and the Great Benny Snell had the running game covered.

The plan was there, on Sept 1, few fans doubted the plan. It didn't work. But I can't abide complaints from backseat drivers and Mondy morning QBs.

Bills have an excellent defense, so do the Steelers. Both offenses have major issues. Honestly I think the Steelers have a better offense than the Bills aside from QB. Not that I think Allen is a stud, he’s just better than what the Steelers have.

You forgot to put the first to worst applies only to redzone offense, but that doesn't fit your lame narrative .

Drop off on offence is down to losing AB and Ben and having a fourth string camp arm at QB while at the same time going through an injury crisis.

Plenty of people stated that losing AB was going to be devastating for the team and they were at least partly right but if Ben was in there with a healthy Juju, Conner, Washington, Johnson and Vance I doubt that the Steelers would be last in Redzone offence.

I don't disagree with what you are saying and you know from my past posts I am not a Tomlin fan. Heck look what happened when we got to 8 wins the rose colored nut huggers had to start a thread about yet another non losing season....wtf? However what my post is about is this thread and how someone could say MT is not in the running for COTY. If we are gonna trash him for all the things that go wrong then imo we have to give him props for getting this mash unit where it is.

We have lost many starters for more than 1 game and we are still here in a playoff spot. :)shrug:) Like him or not you got to give him credit for this if we are gonna tear him down for not making the playoffs with all the talent we have had in the past or being 1 and done. We can pick and choose what is and isn't his fault. When we lose cause the defense is bad we can't say well it is Tomlin's responsibility to be in charge of his coordinators and when that unit plays good say it is all cause of talent. jmo
