I mean at this point if Duck stinks it up again and they don’t wanna go back to Rudolph then why not at least maybe consider dressing Lynch this week. I don’t know much about this guy but he is a former number 1 pick, he has been with the team now for 3 months and should know the offense. And you’re doing whatever you need to do at QB these last 2 games to make the damn playoffs.

So if I’m Tomlin and he is concerned about Duck after how he played last night then why not dress Lynch and have him available at least as an option. It probably won’t happen but it’s not the worst idea in the world either to suggest.

I don’t know a whole lot about Lynch, have hardly watched him. What I do know is that he was a relatively recent first round pick that was out of football until the Steelers were forced to bring another body in. He was an epic bust by all accounts. I can’t imagine he is a better option than Duck or Mason tbh.

Gotta find quality or just capable backups for whoever is the starter next year.
Rivers or Manning might not make a full season.

Hodges isnt the first, and wont be the last, to play a bad game against a good defense. Give Hodges a chance to redeem himself. If he can't, then go back to Mason. Those are our two options at this point. I doubt Paxton Lynch is even in the conversation.

    Hey steel_ben7

Well, if we are going to do it, lets do it now against the Jets. Get a "full" game under his belt as we march towards a potential playoff run. I was all on board with Mason even after the Browns' game. I did say let him start the next one against the Bengals but agreed with the pulling of him in that game. I would also say go through the same route with Duck. However, we really do not have the time left to see how Duck performs against the Jets knowing there is only one regular season game left after that. I would rather see Lynch get a whole game under his belt right now before deciding who is going to be the QB in the final game.

Ducks confidence was shattered after the first two int's... just like MR. Mentally, they're done. Very winnable game last night. But, we gift wrapped it away.

Doubtful that Paxton suits up. Even though he does have the First Round pedigree, history is against him here. Quarterbacks over 6'6 are not successful in this league.

I did. He is a 3rd string undrafted QB. I was never one to think that Hodges was some sort of savior. Not suprised the Duck calls finally brought in the Ducks. I always knew they were coming.

    Dress Paxton? to what end?

I can see the logic of continuity with starting Duck, especially if the team thinks Rudolph is still frazzled from his most recent experiences.

I can see the logic of starting Rudolph. Duck has crashed to earth, Rudolph has pedigree and you might as well see how he responds to adversity, especially if you still consider him a potential successor to Ben.

But playing Paxton, to me, just reeks of desperation. Hoping against hope that his fairy tale might come true, now that Ducks fairy tale appears to be in tatters.

Agree as well, I just can't agree with the logic of the play calling that I personally think put last nights debacle where it landed. Rudolph got broke and it showed and the move had to be made. Duck been filling in and they've survived. He was put in a bad spot last night and asked too much of in my opinion. Now if Randy is gonna continue to play asinine ball, it don't matter and yinz can dress whomever at this point. But I say continuity and for **** sakes play some situational ball'

Elway fell in love with Lynch's big arm and figured he could be groomed. Elway felt he was wrong, but didn't even give Lynch enough time to find out.

Fair enough I suppose. That said, given the fact that Paxton has been promoted to the 53 roster for this long tells me that maybe Mike sees something in him perhaps?!?! Doubtful he is the future but perhaps a backup?!

I really don't know much about Lynch, but Elway switches quarterbacks like it's a bodily function.

Actually it is the worst idea , Lynch isn't playing unless there are injuries. If Duck struggles you put Rudolph back in there.

Who knows? None of us are at practice. If Lynch is getting a good handle on the offense, it’s possible that he could be a better option than Rudolph if we need to make a change. I have very little confidence in Rudolph right now.

As for whether a change needs to be made, I think we need to see how Hodges responds. Rudolph responded poorly after his debacle vs. the Browns. Rudolph had an opportunity to reset against a mediocre Bengals team, but he looked terrible and rattled from the first snap of the game. Hodges had a rough outing against one of the top 2 or 3 pass defenses on the league. Let’s see how he responds.

I think vs the Jets you go back to trusting the Defence, running the football and taking the throws that are there. The Jets are not a particularly good team, Duck can manage that game I think, unless he lets last Sunday’s get in his head.

Last Sunday was a mess on offence both from a play calling and execution point of view. They need to put it behind them and move on. If Duck is clearly rattled I’d consider putting Rudolph back in but ideally you let him sit until next pre season and give him a chance to get back on track then.

Unfortunately the Jets have the league’s #2 run defense (#1 in yards per rush allowed) and the #19 pass defense. It’s likely that we’ll need to throw the ball with some success to generate points on offense.

    So was Ryan Leaf.
Paxton did not do well in Denver. To be fair, they gave up on him pretty quickly. Maybe there's a reason?

Didn’t realise that, they do have a couple of very good defensive linemen but I haven’t been following their stats. Interesting to see how the Steelers approach it in that case

This is a MUST game. We don't bring in Paxton Lynch to be experimental. If Duck plays poorly, then you go back to Mason Rudolph.
