Nice 538 write-up on just how unusual it is to be winning the way the Steelers are.

Good read. Good perspective. It truly is amazing that we've got ourselves to our current record without much offense to speak of.

Bittersweet. I think they are SB favorites with a healthy Ben. Healthy team for that matter.

You just hope that the defense can keep this level of play up next season and that Ben is able to play at a high level after being away from the game for a year and being 38 years old.

It's hard to look at him on the sideline right now with his 3/4 tights under shorts and what looks like pregnancy under his sweatshirt. Dude is letting himself go, big time.

He must be depressed. Can't play, team winning without him. His world is turning upside down.

Looks like gravity is still working correctly. It's pulling his gut down over his belt.

Patiently waiting to see what he does after Xmas. I hope he finds the exercise bike before preseason.

It's refreshing to see how the Steelers are winning these games. I don't think a bunch of those high powered offenses are going to be lining up to play this defense. If the offense can continue to grind out yards and chew up the clock while giving our D a rest then that is the formula for this team to go deep in the playoffs. Have to take it one game at a time though. Don't look past the next opponent.

Maybe a bit but there aint no way I'd ever call a fake punt on 4th and 6 on my own 40 up by 10 with 8 minutes left in the game. That's a whole new level stupid right there.

Those calls are all part of his master plan. He reads this message board, and when it looks like people might expect too much of him, bam...run the intentional safety play no one will ever expect that!

    Hey The Glory Days.

Yes, being a Physical Education Teacher, Coach and life-long athlete, I have had my shares of injuries. It is tough being up on the shelf which can lead to "letting one's self go". Weight gain is definitely a cause and effect issue with this as well as possible "Depression". I am not saying Ben has Depression. It is just a broad brush statement that can apply to anyone who has something taken from him/her that they are passionate about. I am pretty sure that Ben is pretty bummed out with the injury though.

We have seen the "Hefty" Ben in the past. Healthy or not. I am pretty sure he will get his body conditioned for next year when he crosses that bridge. Still, I do not like the look and you are getting paid a lot of money as a professional athlete to keep your body in shape. The Steeler players have access to the best equipment and trainers that money can buy. He will get it done IMO.

What concerns me more is the "swirling gossip" that he is not "helping" Mason or Duck as far as mentoring them. If that is true, then that is very selfish. If it is true, it usually comes back to the same old excuses below.

    • That is not his job.
    • He is insecure about job security.
    • He is "depressed" and is content to just be an onlooker for now.

IMO a true "Team Player" does what he/she can for the team. Whether in or out of the game. Take care.

That was a good read but it has shaken my already shaken confidence of the offense.

Because of our situation I've never been prouder of a Steeler team. I'm sure most on here understand this team wouldn't go far in the playoffs but to make them would be like winning the SB. An amazing accomplishment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the way to the bank too. He looks like a guy making millions not doing anything. Depressed, not so sure. I think he feels he's coming back with a years worth of rest and will get right back in the groove.
