He’s gonna get payed a lot more than the Steelers can afford. Between 40-50mil, if that bum hippie Chickillo got 8 mil, just wait till Dupree signs with some one for a huge sum. 5th year magically starts playing decent, for sure a red flag. 100% trying now that it’s his contract year no way around it.

Dupree has set his career high in sacks this season with 7, he has a chance to get double digit sacks this season.

I wonder why every player doesn't perform well in contract years

Pretty obvious he has benefitted from a change in LB coach. That and he was always a project, very raw when he came out.

Have some tough decisions coming up, hopefully they can keep him, would stink to have to start over at that spot.

They should franchise tag him, make one last run at a SB with Ben back in 2020. With no first round pick, not much money to spend in free agency, that production will be tough to replace. They can't afford to lose Hargrave and Dupree IMO.

Actually, that was a pretty athletic play he made today: sack, strip fumble, recovery and should have been allowed to advance - I didn't think he was touched while down and in full possession. But they won - so doesn't matter.

How much are you wanting to sign Dupree for? Has his previous
4 years warrantied what he will want paid? Do you see him able to perform
the way he has this year for upcoming years? The Steelers have always told
their players to test the market. I feel this is exactly what they should tell Dupree
    to do.

Yep let him test the FA market and if he comes back with a reasonable number then you can try to work out a deal with him. I think one of the New York teams or somebody like the Cardinals will make him an offer that is too good to turn down though. It’s really frustrating just when the D is clicking but I think he will be gone.

Did you see him laying the wood on ST's against Cincy? Hardest hits I have seen from a Steeler this year.

I will buy into the whole contract year thing I mean it isn't like us here on the board are the only people talking about it. Many beat writers talk about it and many of the guys on tv talk about it, most of them are former players and coaches. This is a real thing I think Kirk Cousins is one that comes to mind and going back a few how about Joe Flacco? Does it affect every player of course not but the ones that are good and are holding back it sure does, jmo.

With all that said right now we have Bud looking to get paid and in 2 years we have Watt. It is going to be hard to pay both and I am not sure I want 17-20 mil a year tied up on Bud. Don't get me wrong Bud is playing out of his mind but you can't pay everyone. Our D is set to make 93 mil next year without signing him. Smith got 4/66 last year so it will cost more than that to sign Bud.....he is not giving us a discount them days are long gone.

Right now we have Tuitt(14.9), Heyward(13.2), Haden(12.6) and Nelson(10.7) making double digits. Add to that we have to sign Watt and Minkah how do we afford Bud? Yeah we can get rid of Barron but that only clears 5.2 mil and you have to replace his spot. Even if we tag him I am not sure we can fit his 16 mil under the cap next year.

    PS

one last thing right now the Steelers are scheduled to spend the 4th most on defense next year. Jags, Bear and Vikes are ahead of us

Tag him, no one will sign him, and we have another over priced player.

    Hm?!

Jadeveon Clowney is in one and I have not heard his name much. For that matter, nevermind Clowney. Someone like Shaq Barrett or better yet, Byron Jones, is far more likely to get overpaid than Dupree is.

He was definitely touched while he was on the ground, but yes, it was an extremely athletic play.

It would be really tough to lose both Hargrave and Dupree. Hopefully they can find a way to keep one of them, if only for next season, but Watt has to be the priority. They've got a little more time before they have to deal with Fitzpatrick.

I feel like he has trapped the team in a corner and we will have to pay him, but I suspect his effort level will decline after he gets paid.

Fitzpatrick should not be an issue. Should he not improve, Terrell is likely gone. That saves up some cash.
