What would you like to see from Fichtner?

Given the injury depleted nature of our offense, the style that has become MR, and the seemingly reliable defense (up until last week), what would you be happy to see from Fuchtner?

Let's throw out last week completely and find a way to move the ball on offense. It doesn't matter "how" we move it, just give the D a rest and score three times per game.

Would you like to see the wildcat again? Trick/gadget plays? Vannett at fullback? Dink and dunk?

I racked my brain trying to think if I had ever seen such a bad combination of talent and injury on a Steeler offense before and I came to realize that despite all the injuries, we shouldn't be this bad! We have what was an elite offensive line, we have a pro-bowl receiver from last year in JuJu, we have a speedster in Washington, we have a promising young and hungry kid in Johnson.

We lost a few more last week but we shouldn't have been as bad as we were, and we "should" be able to find a way to move the ball knowing that we can rely on our D.

In all seriousness though, he needs to find a way to keep the offense on the field, no matter how they do it.
    Use the wildcat? Sure.
    Trick plays? Why not?

They have a QB and an Offensive Line that is struggling. Help them out by getting the ball out quickly. The quick slant seems to be gone from the offense with Rudolph at the helm. While Rudolph's accuracy is suspect sometimes, maybe he is good at that?
Try rolling Rudolph out of the pocket? Maybe that will give defenses a different look and let him see the field differently?
I'd open up the playbook and really dig deep to find any play that can get positive yardage.

Was there ever an offensive coordinator Steelers fans liked? Arians, Haley and Fichtner were all despised.

    Whisenhunt? Erhardt?

I didn't really get the hate for Haley honestly. He called some dumb plays at times, but what OC hasn't done that?

    The offense actually sustaining drives.

With the mess of injuries through it’s tough to tell how much of the problem is scheme and how much is a lack of talent.

He also can’t force Rudolph to make decisions faster which is another big problem. When guys get open Rudolph either doesn’t see them or is a second too slow to see them.

Bill Walsh couldnt do much with an offense lead by Rudolph.

Although Fichtner has been terrible not going to lie.

Yeah, because Rudolph is the only thing holding this high powered offense back. I mean, just look at all the talent at the skill positions we will field on Sunday, not to mention the stellar play of our offensive line. Can't believe the bum at QB isn't succeeding with all that talent around him.

    1. Creativity in setting up run blocks in the absence of a fullback. For example. Motioning a TE, and having him lead the running play into the hole. Run this type of running play once or twice and it also sets up play action.
    2. While I’m on the topic of play action... more creativity in setting up play action opportunities that expose the LBs. See San Fran offense for concepts. Rudolph isn’t a running threat, but he’s mobile enough to partially roll out of the pocket to pass on the backside of a play fake.

These are just a couple of thoughts. I think we need to focus more on matchups, and what our opponents don’t do well. It seems like our offense just does what it does, no matter the opponent. Also, our “do what we do” approach is simplistic and lacks misdirection or any element of surprise. The wildcat was a nice one game deviation from vanilla, but is not sustainable.

Do what we do is the reason we haven’t done what needs to be done.

Yeah many here want to point out Mason's bad game...which he did have....however how many passes did Holton drop???? Better yet people are talking about Mason's trouble throwing the long ball yet how about the nice pass he had to Holton who didn't catch it????? Mason was bad but so was the rest of this offense.........Nice post.

I think the hate for Haley came from his reputation and attitude. He had been in fracases with players everywhere he was and how dare he disagree with Ben!
