Mason is in protection mode trying not to make mistakes. When he plays his best he is not overthinking and letting it flow naturally. He seems to plays like a sprinter who already has had a false start. Because he plays that way, they seem to try and cater to that with the play calls. Hodges seems to go out and let the chips fall as they may. He should start next week.

Mason can’t land any deep throw much less simple crossing routes. No running game so teams are just teeing off on him and will continue to do so. We will be the worst offense in the league statistically soon if it doesn’t change

Or a HoF kicker could make a FG or the refs could call a ball that goes forward 10 yds an incomplete and they would be 3-7

The whole what coulda have happened is such malarkey. You are what your record says you are.

Has to be a shorter leash than that. He gets a half if they insist on starting him.

    Can’t lose that Cincy game.

Oh don’t get me wrong I totally agree and have said so myself plenty of times here. My point is I don’t think anyone should be pushing the panic button on MR when others have all done their part to get us where we are.

How much does having a non existent running game play into it?

    Not gonna lie. I'm torn.

The emotional part of me agrees with you in totality. The rational part of me says with all the injuries that this season is over and winning or losing to Cincy doesn't matter and that it's more about giving MR every chance to develop.

    Hey "We need a change".

Yes, everyone handles adversity differently. I have not seen enough on Duck to make the same assessment as you. Maybe, as Mason gets more starts he is feeling more pressure. Instead of the opposite happening where he should be getting more comfortable each week. Also, as one poster stated, teams now have more film on him which has most likely led to them dissecting his strengths and weaknesses. It is like baseball in a sense, after you see a pitcher for the first time you pick up on his tendencies either through direct play or film.

Yeah I meant half although if he turns the ball over 3 times in a quarter I yank him

You have to wonder, how much does a teams lack of fear that MR can hurt them through the air, or with his legs for that matter, lead to no room in the run game?

They stack the box and blitz constantly. Pretty hard to run against that no matter how go your OL is.

And, they know his tendency to hold the ball too long and be inaccurate. That's been the knock on him since college. Even when he has time he misses wide open throws terribly.

Sure, it might bite them in the ass occasionally, but they're not worried that he'll have the ability to do it consistently enough to be a huge problem.

If not for the defense playing ridiculously and causing an unbelievable amount of turnovers, we wouldn't have won all those games. Look at Thursday, no turnovers, no short fields. So for Cleveland, no worries.

Wasn't Lynch a 1st rounder in Denver just a few short years ago? I have to admit that I never spent any time watching him and I'm just being lazy now not to do any research. But what were his issues in Denver and how come he never panned out and now finds himself as 5th string afterthought?

Mason seems to set up at the same 5step drop spot to me. Doesn't step right or left, step up when he can.

Which is exactly why I want to try someone else at QB.

Can't hurt and may actually help the defense out.

Is it a question of whether or not the Steelers are willing to concede they wasted a good pick on MR?

I think it's too late to expect MR to learn to step into his throws and lead his WR's.
