Everytime the Steelers have had a truly great defense they had pro bowl caliber players at every level.

    1975 Ranked 2
    DL Greene and LC
    LB Ham and Lambert
    CB Blount
    S Mike Wagner

    1994 Ranked 2
    DL Seals and Stead
    LB Greene, LLoyd, Kirkland
    CB Woodson
    S Lake

    2004 Ranked 1
    DL Smith
    LB Farrior, Porter
    CB Townsend
    S Troy

    2008 Ranked 1
    DL Smith and Hampton
    LB Woodley, Farrior, Harrison
    CB Ike
    S Troy, Clark

    2010 Ranked 1
    DL Keisel, Hampton
    LB Woodley, Farrior, Harrison, Timmons
    CB Ike
    S Troy

Right Now and in the near Future
    DL Heyward and Tuitt
LB Watt and Bush maybe Bud?
    CB Nelson and Haden
    S Minkah

Not sure what will happen with Bud after this year, but he is playing lights out. Plus we are still waiting to see what can happen with T. Edmunds.

If they can keep this core group and stay healthy, most of them are just hitting their prime.
The Steelers could have the best defense for the next couple years.
    Will be exciting to watch.

Tuitt was having a monster season. It's a shame he's injury prone. This defense will be missing him and it will more than likely be more recognized against this Rams offense.

I do like how well this defense is shaping up though. I'm sure Ole Rog is watching too to see what new crappy rule he can come up with to tame it some.

Tuitt is like 26 years old. He's not necessarily getting old. Heyward and Haden are the ones that are starting to get up there. Cant have a stud defense without vets. The good news is that Watt, Minkah, Bush... the core of the defense is still young. I like what I've seen from them so far this year. Its too bad Roethlisberger got hurt. I think we actually have a team that could've made some noise.

I doubt Dupree stays honestly. Each game adds more $$$ to his ever growing check. I would imagine that another team will pay him his efforts handsomely. Take Za'Darius Smith for example as he cashed in big time with Green Bay.

Dupree is likely to earn more than his former Kentucky teammate did.

Steelers are gonna need young talent at all levels on the D. We need blue-chip youth on D-line, an OLB to replace Dupree when he signs with another team in March and a corner to replace Haden when he retires.

Regarding Joe Haden, I have not conceded defeat with Justin Layne. This is a red shirt year for him. Next year will be more telling.

We'll see. So far, he looks like another....Doran Grant, Senquez Golson, Curtis Brown, Terry Hawthorne, Shaquille Richardson, etc.

Cannot really say that though. Justin has yet to play a game defensively. Even more so, his ball skills alone far surpass that of any of the other players you listed coming out of college sans Senquez. This is not accounting for Layne's athleticism either. For that matter, he has already surpassed Senquez by not even being on IR.

Have to give Layne some time. He is still new to the position of corner. Besides, we do not want him to become another "Artie Burns" in which his confidence is shot beyond repair do we?!

Yes, Roger is a complete a$$-hole. He is completely anti-Steeler yet theRoney's for years have put up with his BS. Someone help me here. The Steelers
    Hey bigbenhotness.

Ike was not just pretty good, he was very good.

Some here may forgot how he embraced the challenge each week to match up against the oppositions#1 receiver. In most instances, he was successful. As we all may also recall, if not for his hands of stone he probably would have had a slew of picks. Probably HOF numbers. Yes, he was that good. He did come up with a big pick in Super Bowl XL though. STEELWINDS

You must have watched a different Ike Taylor than I did?
Yes he would tackle, that's about all he could do. Hell Bill cowher
had to bench him he was such a liability. Would fight with A young AB
in practice because he couldn't cover him. Etc. Couldn't catch a cold.

People are bashing Ike Taylor in this thread? Ike was a very good corner for a good portion of his career. If he didn’t catch a football like he was wearing oven mitts, he would have made a few Pro Bowls.

He was good his first 2 seasons after that it was all down hill........... He was never ever a pro bowl caliber corner..... And he had maybe the greatest strong safety ever helping him out plus the other safety was pretty dam good also.....

We need a few more guys to be a great D.

We need someone on the interior of that line that can plug run holes, if it’s not a NT it needs to be somebody. We get pushed off the ball way to easily.

We also to find another ILB to place next to Bush.

Barron is limited and they have practically phased out Vine Williams even though all that dude does is make plays.

Ike Taylor was a badass CB who couldn't catch, but could shut down the best WRs in the league.

I like my fellow Steelers fans, but some of you are absolute morons.

2013 Ike Taylor, was listed on the Worst Cornerback list ranking 71st in yards per pass with 8.9, 80th in success rate with a 43% stop rate, and 50th in yards after the catch with 4.1 Definitely a poor showing considering his worst category is success rate which is the one outside/starting cornerbacks should excel in. The chart lists 109 targets for him, which is well more than most of the other cornerbacks, showing that quarterbacks realized they could abuse him and did so.
