I am a homer. Rooted for Dan Marino and Mark Bolger because both went to my High School. Enjoy the hell out of watching Aaron but one thing for sure, I never root for a Burgh boy when they play the Steelers.

Speaking of Marino, I was so pissed when the Steelers didn't draft him. I think his final year at PITT was not so great and he went later in the draft. I believe the Steelers would have a few more SB's with him under center. I know he didn't win any with the Dolphins but still think he would of with us.

Cowher would have traded him. Didn't need him in his scheme.

The Marino teams at Pitt had staggering talent on both sides of the ball. Marino's line had Russ Grim, Jimbo Covert, Bill Fralic and Mark May. It might be the greatest O-line of all time college or pro. On defense Pitt had Ricky Jackson and Hugh Green and had Tim Lewis and Carlton Williamson in the defensive backfield.

Ahh, the Glory Days! It's funny how many folks mis-remember and still think Dante led the 1976 Panther to that Johnny Major coached undefeated National Championship team. It was Matt Cavanaugh and Marino was the original Pimply Dan teenager still playing at Central Catholic at that point.

I never liked Dan Marino for a completely different reason. I’m a lot older than him but I don’t let that get in the way. He went to my rival Central Catholic. I went to North Catholic. Ring the Bell.

(North Catholic, the Steelers high school. This may be why they didn’t draft the kid from Central?)

It’s where he got his toughness here. He should be a steeler period. As it is though he’s not one of our own so I hope he fails miserably when he comes here

It was that way back when. Central kids had money. North was on the north side. Nobody had money.

Schenley didn't have to take a back seat to anybody with all of the famous people that went there. Bob Prince, Bruno Sammartino, Andy Warhol, George Benson, Larry Brown, Maurice Lucas and on and on.

An out of town friend of mine, years ago, met a young lady and asked her for a date. When he went to pick her up at her parents home, her dad answered the door. When he came back he asked “does anyone know who Bruno Sanmartino is?

I remember the story years ago that Bruno was doing isometric exercises by pushing each arm against opposing cement walls. The only problem was that one of the walls collapsed from him pushing on it. I hope your friend didn't offend Bruno's daughter.

I still remember an interview with someone from the front office years after they failed to take Marino. There were rumors of drug use (unfounded and never really investigated by the team), and the person said, "..and we had good young QB's." Really Stoudt and Malone vs. Marino? They had gotten so far from the roots that brought them great drafts. Another person said they wanted to return to what they had in the beginning and that was a stout D player. Sadly Rivera never had a chance to really show what he could do, he was looking like a good pick, but still Marino was a generational talent, what a huge mistake.

I forgot about the O line. The Coaches actually went to Green's HS to recruit a RB (name forgotten but he did come to Pitt). They kept seeing this D player in the backfield and asked who is that..the rest is history.

I have never heard anybody say the thought Marino was the quarterback of the 1976 team.

Well both of my younger brothers and several of their friends were shocked when I broke the news to them (on repeated occasions). But this is out in Cali, we'll chalk it up to the dazed and confused crowd.
