Giants, Jets, Bucs, Dolphins and Cardinals all run a 3-4 and have more cap room than the Steelers to name a few. I’d agree he will get a big contract somewhere

That's why they should franchise tag him.

That's why they should've kept Skipper for 2020 to take Chickillo's spot, if they let Dupree walk, it will be tough finding a starting capable OLB in the second round or later. They also won't have a lot of money in free agency to find a starter.

He's not bad when he is giving 100%. I have seen some laziness in his game that hurts the team.

Bud is gonna get a huge contract from somebody, hes finally having a decent year in his contract year which is a red flag to me. The light didn't just come on, he's either been lazy or has got lucky this year. Let him walk

Keep seeing the contract year excuse, lot of players don't perform in a contract year.

He was always a very raw player coming out and I think time and more importantly, Kieth Butler was moved back to coaching OLB. I had forgotten that until steelsix pointed it out.

Could it be that is better now that he's not coached by noted buffoon, Joey Porter? Porters been gone 2 yrs. Bud had an improved year last year, and is having a very good one now. Coincidence?

That was far from the only play he made yesterday. He played well against arguably the best line in the NFL. He deserves plenty of criticism, bu give him credit when he earns it.

Ola hasn't been given a chance, Its a shame this is why we are always looking for the
    next OLB.

If some don’t want to buy the “ contract year” reason then it’s hard to believe that his DC for his entire career now being OLB coach as well is the reason. Butler has had more than enough time to put his stamp on Dupree. I’m not buying at all that because now he’s slash OLB coach it’s the big difference maker. If anything I would be inclined to think Watt has had a greater impact on Bud than Butler. Contract year/Watt >Butler. Don’t forget even after JP was fired the LBs were saying how great of a coach he was. That wasn’t necessary for a guy being shown the door, yet they still showed their support.

It’s important to remember that he was forced to play on the left side because James Harrison played on the right. His natural position is right and Watt thrives on the left side. He’s gotten better since James left.

Pats run a hybrid 3-4 don't they where they use a lot of 3-4 guys for all their packages. At least that was the reason Bennett supposedly fell out of favor. They got him when it looked like a transition to a 4-3 base was happening the Collins comes back they get Winovice and stayed a 3-4 that saw Bennett getting less snaps.

I don't think you can discredit having one on one instruction from Butler as helping though either. I said it through the preseason based solely on just what I was seeing that Porter was going to do what he wanted to do and thought Tomlin backed him. This could lead to Butler just backing off and not saying anything because if Tomlin and Porter are tight you don't want to make waves. I mean Joe tried to divide the locker room and Butler never said boo.

I said it could possibly be a reason Bud has improved, I don't really care what's the reason for his improved play, he's producing and helping the team.

No thanks, only at a team friendly deal. He did nothing
his first 4 years here. Let someone else over pay for not much production.

He's certainly playing like he wants to be here, which that alone, is a nice change for once.

Dupree finally showing some life and I believe he is finally playing hard for his next suitor. Good for us he is finally playing like he should have been (see TJ Watt) since he was drafted.

Lets look at what Kalil Mack got: 6 years 141,000,000.

2020 will be Watts 4th year. Sure they can him the 5th year option. But he will get a massive contract.

Dupree won't get near the numbers that Watt will get but someone will throw stupid money at him. Then you can go follow his progress.

Maybe franchise him and trade him for a 1st :lolol: Stranger things have happened though.

I would have loved to see what this defense could do next year with Watt, Dupree, Tuitt and a full season from Fitzpatrick. I just don't think that is realistic. I can't see them being able to keep Dupree.

I'm sure some of what he is doing is improved effort in a contract year, but that isn't the only reason he is playing better. Dupree's technique turning the corner on the pass rush is better. He also has Watt tearing it up on the other side, focusing opposing blocking schemes away from Dupree.

It's been reported that he was playing with a torn Pectoral muscle second half of last season.

I have big doubts if Ola can be a starter who excels at stopping the run or pass coverage, but I would at least like to see what he can do as second string over Chickillo...especially when they actually have Chick rushing the passer.
