    I think that's Stone's point. I don't know for sure though, I don't golf.

His point was the guy was doing it wrong and got lucky. I think.

Golf story me thinks. Golf balls do not roll through traps unless there is no sand in them. the guy with the 3wood miscalculated his punch shot or hit it thin.

Because he sucked! I actually did witness this when I played high school golf. I was a 4 handicap, the guy who hit the 3 wood never broke 90 in his life but he made a hole in one and I lost the hole. The point I was trying to make to Glenn is "luck is sometimes a factor"

An example of growing old sucks: When I started playing golf I used a 9 iron for 150 yard shot. I now need a 5 wood for same shot. Enjoy your youth!!!!!!

Apparently you don't golf either!:smiley1: Golf balls often roll through traps and he didn't hit it thin or mis-calculate a punch shot, he just sucked and 3 wood is the club he felt he needed to get there.

Golf balls do roll through trap with sand in them. Sometimes the sand is harder in the winter and I've had many shots roll through the trap.

I suck at golf, but I can still hit a 3 wood about 175-190 on a good day.

I am 63 years old and I grew up out in the woods an hour north of Pittsburgh and I still don't understand why but our high school had great golfers and none of the teams in our district could compete. We were undefeated for 5 years and I'm not kidding when I say I would shoot something in the low to mid 70's and my opponents would often shoot in the mid 90's. As I get older I realize that it doesn't matter how far you hit the ball, but the memory of this guy rattling the ball through the woods, through the trap, and into the hole will never leave me.

Golf is the only sport/hobby that I've ever embarked where I feel worse, mentally, after a round than I did before I started playing. My other sports/hobbies... I feel better afterwards... skiing, cycling, mountain biking, etc. Golf is for crazy people.

Maybe golfers aren't crazy but the game is mentally taxing. So what you're saying is that you should stick to sports/hobbies that require exertion rather than gray matter.;)

Ben Hogan said "golf is 90% mental and if you master that part you are half way there" The math doesn't work but it exemplifies just how mental golf is.

When I was young, it came naturally with little or no thought. Now, I am still shooting in the 70's but it is hard work and my biggest problem is maintaining concentration for the 1.5 seconds it takes to make the swing:huh:

You are way better than I am. My best score on 18 holes was 88. Best score on a 9 hole course was 37. I usually shoot in the 90's... sometimes 100's on a bad day. Putting and chipping is what kills me. I don't play enough to get better. Golf requires consistency. Playing 2 or 3 times a year don't cut it.

You lads realize there's a "Bushwood Open" thread buried somewhere in the Watercooler Forum. Iowa Jim and I used to play a few rounds together until he was seriously injured when he fell off the ball washer one day. :lolol:

I played Firestone South two weeks ago and I had to hit a stinger under a tree limb and roll the ball through the trap onto the green. Firestones traps are perfectly maintained, it happens all the time with a ball that is motoring horizontally.

You did, you did. I missed it because you originally said the Browns would beat the Pats. I didn't look below that. Kudos!

    Talking about big wusses...

Actually, I said I wouldn't be shocked if Cle beat the Pats, I didn't predict it. Similarly, I won't be shocked if Cle beats the Steelers next week. They're dysfunctional, but I could see them getting their act together for a week or two.
