Steelers fans in 2018 - let’s get rid of the drama and off field issues.

Steelers fans in 2019 after a few losses - let’s get Gordon, drama and off field issues be damned...we need wins.

To be fair, I argued that the team should put talent over drama all along and continue to think that is the way to go.

As others already pointed out, this notion that the Steelers occupy some moral high ground needs to go away in the face of reality. It was never true. It wasn't true in the '70s, when the Steelers engaged in dirty scouting tricks like "losing" the tapes of John Stallworth playing in college. The teams of that era also overlooked the mental health issues of Ernie Holmes as long as he could play. They did the same with Joe Gilliam's drug addiction, trying to let him play through it, then cutting him loose without helping him. They were among the league leaders in steroid use.

The team has an ugly history of turning a blind eye to the dangers of PED use and brain injuries. See Mike Webster as the prime example.

They also stood by Ben Roethlisberger through two rape allegations and James Harrison after he assaulted the mother of his child.

All of these situations are more complex than I am making them out to be in this short post, but the simple truth is, in terms of morality, the Steelers are just another NFL franchise. They aren't worse, but they certainly aren't better. Just because we root for them loyally doesn't mean we can't acknowledge that.

I heard Tom Curran who covers the Patriots say something about Gordon possibly being late to meetings, he's not worth the trouble IMO.
