It's very subtle but if you study these two pics closely, you can see a slight difference between Belichick's and Tomlin's in-game coaching style.

This is why i said in another thread, you could replace Tomlin with a pylon wearing dark sunglasses

I think I actually saw him talking in his headset one time last night.

    Hey Jim90.

I recall that post. Good Stuff! If we had a competent OC, and DC, then Tomlin could ride their coat tails. Unfortunately, I do see either of those guys serving any purpose either. It is like Larry, Curly, and Moe. You could throw Danny Smith in there as well. He could be Shemp. To me, this is one of the most horrific coaching staffs that we have assembled in years.

I was initially down with Tomlin his first five years or so. however, that has dissipated over time as his coaching deficiencies have come to light over the years. The best coaching move that I do respect from him was when he suspended Santonio Holmes for the Giants regular season game during the year that we won Super Bowl XLIII.

One thing about the Steelers that I do respect is that for the most part when there is a disciplinary issue to be dealt with they do not wait for the league to step in to hand out the punishment. They take matters into their own hands. Sure, they are not perfect such as when Harrison hit his girlfriend and they basically did nothing about it. I did not say that they were perfect but they are at the top in the league when dealing with in-house disciplinary issues. Look at the Chickillo incident as another example. I for one do consider ethics and moral issues with my teams (Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins). STEELWINDS

I’m not a huge fan of MT’s style, but these pictures do not tell the whole story. Belichick is essentially the Patriots defensive coordinator. If anything, I expect Butler to be huddling with the players, which I rarely see

Belichick has ate, slept and drank football since he was 10 years old helping his father break down film. He is a different animal that no coaches in the NFL now compare to.

I loved Teddy Bruschi's comments on Belichick saying that if you committed an error twice Bill had to take you out of the game, that's just the way he coaches.

I wonder if Tomlin is even aware of who commits penalties for the Steelers?

But the point is that Belichick is awake, and trying to help win, during his games. Tomlin stands around as if he thinks his job was done before the game started.

Spot the difference.....wow....where to begin and I don’t think we have enough time to explain all the differences.

    Agreed.

This year the Patriots do not have a DC. Belichik has taken over that role and is HC and DC. That is him in his role as DC. I honestly don't recall him doing that type of thing in year's past when he was only HC.

Regardless, I don't put anything into sideline behavior of a HC. It's just something we as fans react to because it's the only time we see coaches working, and may or may not have any no real correlation to the way a coach coaches the 95% of the time they're out of our view.

I'm imagining the fan outrage if Tomlin was heard yelling "What the hell is going on out here!?" ala Lombardi. We'd be screaming "It's his job to know!", "If they're just grabbing and not tackling who's fault is that?", "He's just a cheerleader, not a coach.", blah, blah, blah.

I don't think we as fans are equipped to psycho-analyze the posture and behavior of a coach on the side lines but holy-rip-roarin-****.....act like you know you are involved in a football game!

"Act like you know you are involved in a football game"? C'mon, man. Of course, he's involved. It's not like he's asleep on the couch or something. Hell, he's so involved he once tried to trip a returner going down the sideline. But guess that's not good enough. You want him to "act" like he's involved. For who? For what? For show? Because the camera is on? Because you as a fan will feel better? That's ridiculous. These guys spend an inordinate amount of time working. I don't need nor want to add put on a sideline show so fans think you actually care to the job description.

I guess you missed it when Tomlin goes over and talk to the defense on the sidelines on occasion, Belichick is the Patriots DC this year.

I dunno, I’ve seen Steelers players pulled for their mistakes about as much as Pats players.

I’m not saying Tomlin and Belichick are equal or anything, but some of you guys have a major perception bias.

There’s enough real stuff to look at and judge on the field to assess coaches abilities without guessing what they’re thinking.

If you pan down you will see that only one coach's headset is plugged in.

Let me ask this question: If Tomlin is such a crappy coach as many think, why would you want him actually more involved? Wouldn't you want him less involved?

Do you remember when Mike Mitchell would get a personal foul every other week costing us an opportunity to win a game?

Belichick is the epitome of discipline and Tomlin is the epitome of lax.

Belichick is the epitome of preparedness and Tomlin is the epitome of unprepared.

Say what you want about Tomlin but at the very least his teams never quit on him or on a game, no matter how bad things look. He deserves at least some credit for that.
