Good Day Everyone. First post. I have been reading all of the many threads for years and finally signed up. I have been a Steelers’ fan since 1972. A little historical background on me: Growing up in the New England area (Yes, I did say NE, but calm down now…smile) with no commitment to one particular team, I came into the house after playing football. I turned on the TV right before the Immaculate Reception play was about to take place. After witnessing the magnificence of that life-altering event, that changed so many peoples’ lives in so many different ways, I can pinpoint that moment in time as to when I officially etched in stone which team I was going to become a fan of. I am also a tried-and-true Pirates and Penguins fan as well. I look forward to interacting with everyone. Great to be aboard. STEELWINDS

Welcome aboard! I am also from NE (Connecticut). I became a fan when I was around 9 or 10 years old when SB X ignited the Steelers vs Cowboys rivalry. I fell in love with the black and gold uniforms, and the toughness of the team vs. the Cowboys’ prissy “finesse” style.

Welcome ... A fan since 1970. Those were some good days. So much more simple back then.

Careful Steelwinds this is in the wrong forum. And the mods are very mean on here. That is a joke, they are actually good guys.

Welcome. I had to listen to the immaculate reception game on the radio because it was blacked out in the local Pittsburgh area. Back then all home games were blacked out if you lived within 75 miles of the home stadium.

Middletown. I worked in downtown New Haven for a decade until recently. Now I work in Orange. I miss downtown at lunch time...

I really have to agree with you. Things did seem simpler back then. No knock on anyone regardless of age or era, because in the end we are all down with the Black & Gold. However, I am really not into all of the bells and whistles that have emerged from the NFL today. It really has become a watered down product in so many ways.

I enjoyed the getting up from my chair to have to turn the dial on the TV. Even more so, the surprise to find out that the Steelers would be playing on TV in my geographical region that week. The one play that came in Super Bowl Nine really personifies that era. I always talk about it today. However, given today's rules it would probably draw a year long suspension. It was Glenn Edwards tattooing John Gilliam which lead to a Mel Blount Interception. I think that no matter which era you are from you would appreciate this brand of football. See link below. I hope I did it right.
