I don't care what bull**** excuse Tomlin says with his podium speaking championship.

    He told Heyward...

If WE lose the toss we want to defend this goal.

For those that don't know there are three choices when a coin toss happens if you win.

You can elect to receive, defer to the second half or... Actually use the third option which nobody ever does...that is the direction to defend. Yes you can actually win the toss and forego the first two options and elect a goal to defend.

If you win and elect to receive the loser of the toss selects the goal to defend.

If you win and defer to the second half the other team gets the ball. You get the second half selection of receiving or not. Yes you can actually say we want to play defense in the second half too. Hence the captains meeting at the second half too.
Officials akways just award the kick receive IN the second half because that's what teams always do.
If you win and select the goal to defend the other team gets the ball and you defend the endzone you chose.

What coaches tell players is this...

And I promise you Tomlin told Cam if we lose we want to defend this goal. Meaning Baltimore if they elect to receive we want to defend this goal.

Did you see Cam having another Tomlin amateur moment at the damn coin toss?

The ref actually hesitated thinking wait a second...

You won the toss and you are electing a goal to defend...???Nobody ever forgoes receiving, deferring, Nobody opts for the selection of defendng the goal.

Yet again a complete disconnect between the head coach and the players.

    Amatuer night...

It makes perfect sense. Defense is our best unit and we had a undrafted 3rd string QB in. Tucker was hanging kicks and we were starting around the 15-20 every possession. We would of had to get a couple 1st downs. We go 3 n out and noodle leg Berry kicks in 30-40 yards and Ravens would need like 30 yards to be in Tucker range. Defense get a stop and now your 3rd string can win the game with a FG. Exactly what was happening before Juju fumbled. It was the right call. 7 Super Bowl winning coaches have made the same call.

I wonder what happened when the Patriots under Bill Belichick elected to kick off in overtime.

    They were 1-1 I believe .

Their loss came when the team drove the ball down the field for a TD on the first possession .

Can we rename this thread? Just call it Xcursion88’s imagination because the OP is pure fiction.

Actually call it what it is: another Tomlin-bashing thread. Not that I am against bashing Tomlin, but do we need 100 new threads doing it? Is it worse because the team is 1-4 or because so many people here love Smith-Schuster to much to give him the blame he deserves?

I clearly undressed JuJu and his sleeve wearing fashion statement fumbling like a boss.

Matter of fact I found it hilarious last week against Cinci JuJu talking to Diontae how to secure the ball after a catch.

The fumble king who loves wearing the look at me I'm cool sleeve or sleeves that absolutely kill sense of feel with the football.

The trendy arm chair fans have no ****ing clue!

The validity of a post on a message board that declares an opinion as definitive fact is immediately suspect. This point is further reinforced when the poster insults the intelligence of anyone who disagrees.

In other words, you're full of :bscow:

I think there might be something to this sleeve thing. I wear UnderArmour shorts cause when I run the friction between my legs is slick.

No it doesn't! If you receive the ball, and score a touchdown, the game is over...You have to score to win the game regardless...So the odds are BETTER by taking the ball because, no matter how good your D is playing...If you score a TD, The other team doesn't even get a chance...It's over!

That's irrelevant because Bmore didn't score a td all 2nd half. Our D is our best unit. 7 Super Bowl winning coaches have deferred in OT. It's happened 16 times and the team won 8. That's 50/50 and doesn't factor we had an undrafted 3rd string QB in. It was the right call all things considered; 3rd string QB, they have the best kicker in the league, we have a noodle legged punter, and D is our best unit.

I don't care what happened; I just know that I heard the ref says that both teams were guaranteed one possession each.

These are the rules that were stated by the referee before the start of OT, so they should be absolute; no matter what the rules says.

If the ref is allowed to change the rules of a late hit in the middle of the game; TO: "not allowed to hit a QB below the waist"; the same rule change should apply to the ref changing the rules in Overtime.

Sorry...We have to disagree on this... I'm an odds type of guy...If you get the ball, and a defender falls down, we make a big play, whatever...And the other team doesn't even get a chance... I'll take that Everytime! I agree our D is our better unit...But you need a score regardless, and as I have said many times, If you get a TD...The other team doesn't even get a chance...

Actually, The league had a lengthy debate over this saying the team who won the coin toss had an unfair advantage, because if the team receiving scored a TD...The opposing team didn't have the same opportunity

I just gave you the odds. It's happened 16 times and the team who has done it has won 8 times. That's 50%. Now the team who receives first all time is like 56% but once again that doesn't factor in an undrafted 3rd string QB.

SteelCityMB posted where you can see the stats yourself. http://www.quirkyresearch.com/football-lists/winning-ot-coin-toss-kicking/

New rules start at #12 Belichick has done it twice.

Stop armchair QB it after the fact that they lost and look at what was actually happening in the game. Some of you guys arguing this are clueless as to what was going on in the game.

I can think of two off hand. One was the Super Bowl against the Falcons and one was the AFC championship game last year against the Chiefs. Both times the Patriots won the toss and went down and scored a TD and the other team never possessed the ball.

And...both times the situations were different. They had all the momentum and they had no trouble moving the ball late in those games.

    LOL

    Another typical keyboard warrior.

Trust me when I tell you...

The underamor type sleeves make that surface.... YOUR FOREARM... A slick launching pad for the football.

I've countless years experience with this subject and players and the fact you act like it's crazy screams you don't.

Any day you want to go over the intricacies of the game let me know.

Until then...keep applauding the fumblers and half assed excuse laden football.

Just think your heroes (Tomlin ET al) are getting paid millions to make those juvenile decisions.

Oh well... Someone hits the state lottery every single day.

Actually, writing a fictional version of events that you can't support was dumb. It is certainly fair to question whether it was the right decision or not, though you're wrong there as well. Tomlin got the result he wanted. The defense held and even with the monster punt, the Steelers got better position than they had after a kickoff all day.

I have more of a problem with Smith-Schuster's failure to protect the ball with two hands than his clothing choices, but you are welcome to claim those countless years of experience with Under Armour, though most of us can count to 23 quite easily. I cite that number because Under Armour was founded in 1996.
