I hate it when he tries to come off like he is Don Cherry when he talks hockey. As if he has ever laced up a pair of skates in his life.

I'd add they way they used it was just dumb once the Ravens saw the formation they went into their practiced defense. They try more straight ahead runs or a better timed throw.

Barron was jogging looking lost after giving up a pass play, they didn't miss his half assed effort, at least Vince plays hard he's just limited athletically.

Not challenging your opinion I just wanted to know how soon you knew with others? If you'd have told me Ben in his first year would manage the game into a 15-1 record and go on to become the franchise QB I think I'd have said let's wait and see. That's just me. Looking at MR to me it is still to early to tell what he will become. A DLG like Alex Smith, a one time wonder like Files or Keenum, a total hype like Mariotta or Winston, or just a backup no better no worse.

A rare poster, but a lurker. Would like to make my take away comments on Ravens loss.

    The negative:
-Last drive defense. Three games now the defense has not been able to get a key stop, Seattle, Frisco now Bmore, the Steelers had games won only for the defense fail to make a play in crunch time. Though admittedly, the last two Ravens scores yesterday were aided by a phantom roughing call and then the OT score resulted from the fumble.
-Injuries. Every now and then you think "maybe it's just not your year". Rudolph was actually showing promise and his courage (more on that later) can't be denied and blam he goes out.
-Running game. If the Steelers are going to win with rookie/UFA QBs they are going to need more from the run game. It's not historic bad, but it's not good enough
-It's still a loss. Steelers go from being 1 game out of division lead to being 2+ tie breaker out. It was a monster fall. You go from division to fighting for your lives.

    The positive:
-The Steelers have lost to nothing but division leaders, good teams (save Frisco who trails Seattle). Other than the Patrios debacle, one play in any of those 3 games and the Steelers are 4-1. Yea I know the question is if you can't beat a good team, are you good? Fair enough.
-The defense. I thought for the most part the defense played very well yesterday. The secondary looks better and the defensive line was disrupting the Ravens all game. Yes other than the last (roughing the passer aided) drive in regulation and a couple other decent drives by the Ravenes, I honestly think the defense played well enough
-They are in the AFC. The AFC stinks, purely. Other than New England and KC, who is that good? Buffalo? Nice defense, but nothing on offense. Tenn? Ditto. Oakland? Really? Baltimore? Cleveland? Yea decent teams but nothing earth shattering. So if the Steelers could find a way to win next week in San Diego, they have a bye week before three straight home games with Miami coming to town. They could be 3-4 with momentum and home games against the Colts and Rams. Yes, not easy games there, but if they split, they'd be 4-5 after 9? Would you take that? I think I would
-Courage. Rudolph put his life in harms way taking that nasty hit to make a play. The players KNOW now he's someone to rally around, get behind. If he comes back and the Steelers are still in this thing, I think they will really rally around him. Maybe that's just Hollywood fantasy, but it could happen
-1976. That Steelers team was 1-4 (3 of the losses by 2, 3, and 3). Yea yea yea, no way you can compare this team (well almost any team, especially that defense) with the '76 Steelers (who actually did not win it all that year thanks to having zero running game w/ Franco and Rocky both our injured), but it does show you that you never give up.

    The ugly:
-Roughing the QB. That was a most egregious roughing call. Simply un-called for. Admittedly, the Steelers were the benefit of a similar, though not quite as bad, roughing call earlier in that game, so it's just general league incompetence in trying to "protect" the QB. This also underlines the problem with instant replay (which I favor) in that any call can "change the course" of a game, thus change the course of NFL History. Holding, roughing, even offsides (missed offsides on TJW yesterday as an example) can all change the course of a game. That said, reviewing every stinking play for 5 minutes at 30 different angles defeats the purpose of replay and that's to get egregious missed calls corrected, not to create perfection in the sport. NFL needs to do something, because between the 20+ penalties, the multiple blown calls in spite of countless minutes under replay booths I found myself channel surfing to NFL redzone.
-Tomlin. How he handles the rest of the season determines his fate. If he keeps this team together and they turn the season around he remains coach. That said, he is the most bland, talking point coach in league history. Bellichick's pressers are just about as bad, but his indifference to questions is almost funny. Give me guys like Mora, Ditka, Chuky who just answer the damn question and not spout out canned talking points.

Anyway, San Diego is probably their season in my view. I see no chance of coming back from 1-5, but 2-4 heading into a bye week before 3 straight home games could at least make the rest of the season watchable even if they fall short in the end.

I’m curious why Earl Thomas wasn’t ejected from the game.... seems pretty clear to me that an unconscious player.... is a pretty good indication of targeting.... unless they changed those rules.

I don’t blame Juju for the fumble.... that DB punch came soooo fast and was deadly accurate on the ball.... no WR in the league was holding onto that ball. Just sucks that we are now relegated to being a sub500 team for the rest of the season.

I did not read this thread so if I say something that was said sorry just not gonna read 8 pages.....watching this game was pain enough. I was gone most of the weekend but got home 20 min before game time. Was texting with my middle son about how big this game was and we came up with Washington needed to have a big game and the defense had control Jackson as the two big keys to the game.

Well after the game I was in complete shock. First I want to say Hodges played great and if we won what a great story that could have been. JW did have a good game until the injury and the defense did play good most of the times. Now that brings me to my complaint.........WHY CAN WE PLAY GOOD ON FIRST AND SECOND DOWN AND GIVE UP THE BIG PLAY ON THIRD DOWNS EVERY FREAKING WEEK????????? Enough is enough already, we pressure the crap out of QB's and out front 7 are playing great to just give up third and long way to much. I also want to know WTF was Tomlin thinking in OT? It is so time for the Steelers to let this guy go and take Butler with him. Bottom line I don't care what people say about no losing seasons or winning percentage....BS!!!!! Time to get rig of this guy and the staff and rebuild, we have talent and this could be a good team we need coaching.......ok done!

My last complaint is the NFL this is gotten to be a powder puff league. That penalty on Ola makes me sick, I get it we are trying to protect guys but this is still football. If you want to protect guys why wasn't Thomas tossed on the hit on Mason? He launched and everything and that is what the NFL is trying to stop.......I am getting pushed away from the NFL now. I am not gonna say I am done with it but my interest has changed big time.

What a great way to start the week, a Monday wet and cold here in NY and a Steeler loss. A season lost and we don't even had the first round of the draft to look forward to............Oh well at least we will still have TSF mock draft if we all can survived the season :noose::guiness::tequila::puking 3:

Hodges looked good, but if they've got to rely on him or Lynch this season could get very ugly, not just bad. The next five games looked daunting enough with a backup, but with a 3rd stringer things look bleak. At Chargers, Dolphins, Colts, Rams, at Browns. At the start of the season that looked like a 4-1 or 3-2 stretch. Right now, especially after how the Colts looked last night that looks like a 1-4 or 2-3 stretch. I have a very tough time finding 3 W's there. Heck, the Dolphins may actually try to win that game since they have the Steelers first round pick.

The worst part, barring Hodges completely exceeding even the most optimistic expectations and being the second coming of Kurt Warner, is that the team still won't have an idea about the future of the QB position and what they have in Rudolph. Is he top flight starter, a very good backup, or what? Without knowing that this franchise is a better version of the Redskins, but not much more.

I was off by a game. I thought Steelers would be 2-4 at the bye.... looks like 1-5. I don't see Steelers winning in California given their track record there.

Officiating in the league is horrid. Having to replay every damn play is ridiculous. So many breaks in the action and thus momentum is gone. Why did it take 5 to 10 minutes to review JC's touchdown??? I got to see it on highlights and it looked obvious.

I was tuned into SNR for the game. Believe it was Wolf' that stated (after the OT coin toss decision) they had Tomlin boomed when he spoke to the defense prior to taking the field. He stated something like, if you want to be great - here's your shot. To me, that's powerful stuff and the definition of a leader.

The game is still violent. These guys are much bigger than yesteryear and evolving is to protect is necessary. However, the league has created a disconnect with inconsistency.

The broadcast mentioned it and had the flag icon showing. It was obviously during the whole Rudolph injury concern so it was easy to miss but I am sure I heard it mentioned.

We would not pick top five, there are plenty of sand baggers out there. Cinci, Miami, Jets, Titans, skins, Tampa are reliable losers. We will win some games and finish mid pack. Let’s give the guy a chance he’s playing well. Im on board with a Tomlin change but, the team played hard and came up just short with an undrafted kid who got no first reps. I’m more upset that our ownership and players did not stand up for Mason. They should have demanded an ejection and subsequent suspension. That hit defines an illegal hit period, it was everything they claim to be eliminating. It was purposeful, dangerous and they will continue if we do not raise concern about it. For god sake we got the same punishment for a hit on Jackson that should not have been called as they did for dam near killing our guy.

Remember last year when they often went to the split screen during 30 second time outs or replays so we could see what was going on - on the field or sideline? It was annoying at first but after missing about a half dozen replay decisions during Steelers game yesterday it became clear that the split screen was a better way to go, for the fan. Obviously the sponsors didn't think so which probably killed that novel idea. But for the SNF game, the officials waited until AFTER the commercial breaks to announce all of their replay decisions. Perhaps the Steeler game officials were so embarrassed by all their crappy calls that they didn't want the millions watching at home to see/hear their decisions.

Of the current players ... Russell Okung has made the Pro Bowl couple of times. Dan Bailey has had an outstanding kicking career. Though still early in his career, Chris Carson had over 1000 yards rushing last year. Slightly older player within the last 10 years .... Kevin Williams DT - 6x Pro Bowl (retired in 2015) named one of the 50th greatest Vikings.
