Minkah Fitzpatrick has attributes that no other Free Safety in Steelers History has EVER had; range, recorvery speed and ball skills. That sounds truly unusual but that is how historically Pittsburgh's Free Safeties have been dating back to the merger. Mike Mitchell?! Ryan Clark?!?! Mike Wagner even?!?!.... maybe but I do not believe it is to the level of this guy.



Regarding those stats, much of those stats happen in the slot. Your best weapon against the slot, this position called a Slot Cornerback, should be used. Guess what Keith Butler does?!?!?

 

I seriously question Butlers ability as a coach if they lose to the 49ers. This defense on paper is actually good to great.

Butler should have been fired two years ago. Absolutely absurd this loser is allowed to keep his job and produce garbage results. My fear is that he finally gets canned this season but TOMLIN gets another year. More wasted time

Holy cow!!! You are telling me!! Nine First Round players on that defense. Should it be more of the same, I seriously hope Keith Butler is fired. If not, demote him.


Promote Terryl Austin to Defensive Coordinator. He haa NFL Experience coaching a defense so the concept is not new to him. Give Tom Bradley full control of the secondary and use the offseason to find a Defensive Backs Assistant.



Seriously should not be this difficult putting up results. Heck, Steve Spagunolo of the Kansas City Chiefs has done WONDERS for them. Given the fact that it takes time to understand a Spagnuolo defense given its complexity, what does that tell you about Butler?!?!

 

Against Tom Brady and Russell Wilson. Context matters.

 

What's interesting is where the majority of the success against the pass defense has come from. Short passes on obvious mismatches of LB on WR or RB and long passes where the safety has been late to react or plainly out of position. If Fitz begins to solidify those mistakes it goes a long way towards fixing those problems.

 

Even with Steelers elite defenses they couldn’t stop Brady. I think 2011 and 2018 were their best vs him. Both at home though.

Top 5 defense if edmunds, bush, and OLA come up to par which I believe they will.
