Can’t draft anyways so I’m all for it. This year can be a building year for the future and maybe even a wild card if we are lucky

This sends a message. Steelers aren’t throwing in a towel on this season. I hope he plays well. Lot of capital spent for him.
I like the fact he’s young and basically controlled this season and a possible 3 more seasons.

I like the move but feel like it's 2 years too late.. Why couldn't they do this with Patrick Petersen when we had a super Bowl caliber team. Now they do it when we lose our franchise qb for good and looking like a lost season.. Kinda perplexing

With our draft history of DB's why not give up an unknown college player pick for a proven commodity in his second year. The only problem I see is that he was complaining about playing out of position at safety and that is where he will be here.
Some scouting reports had him as the highest ranked corner and the highest ranked safety in the 2018 draft.

What is so ballsy about this move? Colbert is on a one year contract what does he care. :hehehe:

This is a vote of confidence for Rudolph. The team must see him as their starter for the foreseeable future, and they apparently think they can compete with him now or in the very near-term. Otherwise, there is no reason to make this move. We'll have to see how it plays out, but the front office still sees this team as talented enough to win. I'm not sure they're coached well enough to win, but I hope the gamble works.

Fair enough on this. I did suspect this would be the case. Keep in mind though that beyond Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert, there really is not anyone acquiring. Jake Fromm?! Jalen Hurts?!?! Jake Browning?! Not many choices.

Realistically speaking, I would want Justin Herbert. However, there is one issue. To concede on Mason after one season means that the Front Office clearly messes up with its evaluation or Mason simply is not good enough.

Personally, I think Mason is up for the task. If anything, if he were in the 2020 class, I would put Mason right behind Justin Herbert. For that matter, Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports had Mason his number one QB of the 2018 draft. Kevin Colbert himself had a First Round Grade on him.

I believe in Mason. The issue now might not be Mason. The issue still is the coaching staff. Namely one person whom I believe you know I do not like.

Am I dreaming? Is this real life?

Just got off work. Stopped at a gas station to fill up and ran into a friend (who is a Redskins fan). He says, "So your Steelers got Minkah Fitzpatrick, huh?"

I laughed and said "I wish."

He pulls out his phone and shows me the alert on his ESPN app. I had to race home and turn on the TV and come here because I still couldn't believe they actually pulled this trigger. Holy... Effin... @#^!

The pressure is off this season. We can enjoy it for whatever it turns out to be. But this was a huge shot of good news we all needed. And going forward, the future is bright.

Agreed...Not ballsy....Our absolute weakest position ( for years ) we get a top notch DB for basically FOUR years...On a rookie contract!

    A high 1st round pick !

Keep in mind Patrick Peterson is serving a six game suspension. Keep in mind Pittsburgh already has had the likes of Martavis Bryant the team prior towards those rumors. What good is talent if it is unavailable due to selfishness?!

You add Fitzpatrick and Bush to the defense this year along with Nelson and Barron and still don't improve , then it is just plain bad coaching pure and simple as that.

Not just any First Round pick either. Minkah is a Top 15 pick. The general consenus was that he was not just the best Corner but also the best Free Safety from his class. This class also happens to include the likes of Derwin James; my favorite player of that draft second only to Quenton Nelson.

For that matter, Minkah was also one of three of the safest prospects in the class. The other two were Saquon Barkely and Quenton Nelson himself. That in it of itself is incredible given his talent level.

One final thing?! Nick Saban himself said that Minkah is the greatest Defensive Player he has ever coached. For a legendary College Coach who has had some SERIOUS talent over the years, that speaks VOLUMES.
