Most teams use pick type plays. Maybe if we were content with moving the ball down the field instead of airing it out every other play we could benefit from them as well. I remember using crossing patterns more frequently in the past and with great success. Some reason we refused to use them on a more consistent basis. The all or nothing approach does absolutely no favors for our D.

I have two thoughts on this...

    1. Decent pass rushers are at a premium in this league and if you are going to put TE Gentry on the inactive list, just send him to the PS already. I don't care if Skipper is on the inactive list, at least he would have been protected and I'd rather risk a project TE on the PS than a pass rusher who consistently played well in the preseason.

    2. Ola better show he can stay healthy and put himself in a position to take snaps away from Chickie. I'm gonna be pissed if we kept the wrong one.

I don't have a problem with them keeping Holton. I thought some other players could have been sent to the PS to make room for Skipper on the 53. Gentry or Johnson specifically.

Tomlin has given no indication that we are ever going to do anything but rotate 3 guys. You would think with Watt banged up we would of tried to re secure Tuzar. Maybe we did but he chose the Giants. I dream of a day where anyone but Dud or Chick get a chance. Oh I forgot those guys are killin it....

I think where they really ****ed up was in not playing Skipper on STs in the preseason. Had they done that then he would have been active on game day and would not have been waived. For some reason they refused to give Skipper a chance on STs until the last game and at that point I think they had decided that he wasn't a STs player. I don't know why. That said, I'll hold off on freaking out until he shows something in real games. At that point I'm all in on the freak out. But I've seen this whole song and dance too many times in the past to be upset yet. Almost always the player is soon available back to the Steelers or you just never hear of them again.

Technically they are all " running routes " until the ball is caught...

Which is such BS, and why they are so successful, and because the Refs don't call it because...

They are blocking BEFORE the ball is caught

He is as long as he is the 3rd safety in the Big Nickel package where he can freelance and get the rb or slot receivers on the crossing routes. As the primary he is like a buffalo nickel

There a fatal flaw in their logic that their Safeties are interchangeable and that they don’t need a true FS. You can’t make a regular LF or RF in baseball a CF. There’s a skill level involved both physically and instinctively. As long as we continue to have that mindset we will continue to see our SSs get beat over the top.

I agree about the playing time together. We need to change that.

I don’t think you can blow the guy up.

I don't really understand this move at all. At least give him a shot before cutting him. There's others that could have been buried on the PS. These days I'm really struggling to have any type of confidence in this team. It's frustrating

Giving him an extension was a mistake, he's not who he used to be.

I don't know if Skipper will turn into anything great but it just seems like the FO has no clue what they are doing.

There is no way Johnson would have made it to the practice squad. Gentry might have made it, but the Steelers weren't going to lose a draft pick for a free agent with shaky practice habits. Those options are not realistic, so I don't know why they keep coming up.

Matakevich should have been the one to go. I just hope this mistake doesn't come back to bite them in the ass too badly.

It was stupid to let him go. But the Steelers specialize in stupid now days.

I'm pissed about this. especially when you consider Dupree will be gone and Chick sucks. Maybe you want to keep a young guy who actually made the team against all the odds?
