They really don't have the cap space right now to sign a veteran.

EDIT: I should say "a decent veteran" that can block and catch passes.

We do. Luke Willson isn’t a star, but he’s an upgrade over either Grimble or Gentry. Willson’s market value is considerably less than our available cap space.

What? 2017 was a good draft.

Most of the time, a blocked punt is the fault of the guys who are supposed to be protecting the punter, not the punter himself.

oohhhh, the blah blah blah argument...my bad. I had no idea who I was dealing with here.....here is my first born, do with him as you wish..

And no I cannot predict what MT will say mostly because he makes up some crazy azz phrases each year and I'm not privy....but I do know he will say that the games matter because he's said it so many ways and in so many Q&As. It's like his mantra...

Just don't see how Spencer would not be more valuable to the team then Mat or McCullers. Punt return field position and possibility of breaking a few along with a few end around plays and reverses for big gains is more valuable then someone who who plays so little on defense and could be replaced so easily. Spencer was scary elusive and they don't come around often compared to the other two that are a dime a dozen.

It’s like the team puts this massive emphasis on “can they play special teams?” for every position except punt and kick returner.

Incidentally, the Seahawks, Colts and Broncos came out of cuts with only one healthy QB on their roster.

I’d be surprised if Dobbs was shifted to one of them at this point, but you never know.

Anyone know what Layne’s injury is? Other than the 3rd degree burn suffered on the deep TD pass of course...

    Turtle, it's called coachspeak.

You undermine your own argument by mentioning his little sayings and phrases. He, and every other coach, says things that sound good but don't say much.

For special teams only I hope. Maybe I was a bit harsh on the rook Layne but he looked horrible. This team just cannot pick corners. They better sure up an extension for Haden.

Except they generally like to carry about 5 million in space into the season and we are already under that I believe. They would have to rework or extend someone before the season if they want to sign another player.

We have 4,577,578. Now if hooks is given an injury settlement it could increase a couple hundred thousand.

I only read a few pre-draft analyses about Layne, but they all said the same thing: he was raw, and there is no way he would be ready his first year. Despite that, he was still given a 3rd round grade by these analysts.

With that in mind, it doesn't make sense to judge Layne after a single preseason.

    What I can't phantom ... is, why can't we draft decent db's?

I had a feeling Skipper wasn’t going to make the team because I heard a rumor that he wasn’t exactly what you would call a “ practice “ guy. Kinda the same way JH was early on. Kinda hard to say without a doubt how much they value PS performance, but if the rumor is true it would seem to me that Tuzars performance during the PS games forced their hand....

I don't know about his practice habits but here's a little clip from 4 years ago.

I'm very happy he made the 53 though. Seems like a powerful pass rusher. Where as Ola is a little more finesse and wins with speed and his hands, Tuzar just powers around and through Tackles like JH use to do back in the day.

Correct. Butler stated that he loves what Skipper brings to the field on game day but he isn't in love with his effort in practice.

Maybe this explains why he was unemployed & flew under the radar for so long. Not being a practice guy worked for Allen Iverson because he had pedigree & a resume...
