Guess either Big Al or Matt Feiler will have the honor of facing Clowney then. That game was already going to be tough. Adding Clowney will make it more difficult.

I would have cut Matekevich to keep Holton or Spencer, but ho hum.

I really would have liked Johnny Holton, but you can't fit them all in

The article that goes with it said the kept the incumbent kickers, cut the other two. Must not have gotten to the people editing the roster onlne

On offense the team released quarterback Devlin Hodges, running backs Trey Edmunds, Travon McMillian and Malik Williams, receivers Trey Griffey, Johnny Holton, Tevin Jones, Brandon Reilly, Eli Rogers and Diontae Spencer, and tight ends Micky Crum, Kevin Rader, Christian Scotland-Williamson and Trevor Wood. On the offensive line Garrett Brumfield, Derwin Gray, J.C. Hassanauer, Patrick Morris and Damian Prince were released.

Defensively the team let go of defensive backs Marcus Allen, Dravon Askew-Henry, Marcelis Branch, Jhvonte Dean, P.J. Locke and Trevon Mathis, linebackers Jayrone Elliott, Christian Kuntz, Tegray Scales, Sutton Smith and Robert Spillane, and defensive linemen Winston Craig, Greg Gilmore, Henry Mondeaux, Casey Sayles and Conor Sheehy.

In the battle for kicker and punter, the incumbents won out, with Matthew Wright and Ian Berryman both being released

Same. I could live with cutting one or the other (prefer Spencer) but ditching both while keeping Matakevich? I can not concur with that.
We are going to have 10 linebackers?! Too many. I would have cut Ola too. Skipper has shown as much as he ever did but Ola can not stay healthy.
Spencer could have been a discount Tyreek Hill for us, seeing what we kept on the roster in place of him (and Holton) is disappointing to me.

Agreed. I think keeping Matakevich over Holton or Spencer was a mistake.

Matakevich sucks. Seems every team has that one guy who won't go away.

Seems so. We’ve gone with 5 a few times the past few years - I was trying to remember if there was a year we had only 4.

I’d have kept Holton, but perhaps he simply wouldn’t see the field. The 5 we’ve got are pretty solid IMO.

Holton had 3 catches for 86 yds and a TD Thursday night. Didn't matter. Still got cut. He may have led all the receivers in yds for the preseason, although I didn't check.

I'll use him as evidence of how the games in preseason don't matter even for evaluation and my contention that the 53 was essentially set before Thursday's game based on what coaches saw day in and day out in practice. If anyone was going to make the team based on preseason game performance, it was him.

If the preseason games don't matter, Skipper wouldn't be on the 53.
