I wouldn't call him a terrible fan. I'd call him a pessimist who loves the Steelers and even he admits he hopes his negative predictions about the Steelers are wrong.

I'm an avid Pirate fan who knows it will be doom and gloom. I don't consider myself a terrible Pirate fan.

Sorry, but my opinion is he’s a terrible fan. He’s on my ignore list that way I don’t have to listen to his negative BS.
I’m pretty sure a good portion of what he posts is deliberate just to agitate/troll fellow Steelers fans.

That’s all I got to say about that.

less! 9-11. I think Ben will have learned that last year's newly found arm strength lead to some forced balls and balls without his normal touch and will correct that.

I must be doing something right. Pollyanna Glenn thinks I'm a terrible fan.

I don't consider myself a pessimist. I am a realist who deals in history, facts and truth. Big difference. My realism obviously irks some people. So be it.

I'm one of the few here who believe that Mason Rudolph could very well be the next Steelers franchise QB. I wouldn't call that pessimistic by any stretch.

The realist thing is silly, its just your opinion. Some fans are glass half empty and some are glass half full.

You fall under half empty. You're mostly a pessimist, it's who you are, no big deal.

Yeah I guess realist is better then pessimist. I take a lot of crap on the Pirate message board when I bad mouth management. They say I'm a bad fan. I love the BUCS but come on I am not wrong saying management are greedy and cheap, it's a damn fact.

I’ve found that most people who claim to be a “realist” are usually not very realistic in their expectations.

Being somewhat critical doesn’t make you a bad fan, but nonstop repeating the same negative crap over and over does.
And yes there is a such thing as a terrible fan.

Those are facts from his pro career. I have nothing to do with the stat.

Ben's fault he has to throw 35+ passes a game is what this post is about? Shame on you.

The last 4 yrs Ben has thrown 35+ passes 37 times and is 23-13-1. He's thrown less that 35, 20 times and is 16-4. In 5 of those 20, he threw 33 or 34 passes, if that makes a difference. He'd have probably throw 35+ vs Mia in '16 and vs Oak in '18, If he hadn't got hurt.

Ben's gonna throw. He'll throw 33 or more in 75% of his games. He wants to throw, Fichner is his pal, Tomlin will go along. No one is going too rein him in. Maybe that's too much, but his record with 35+ passes/game exceeds 10 wins per season. That's better than last year, and will almost certainly make the playoffs.

Edit: Looking at history, I'm getting convinced that the Steelers don't lose when Ben throws a lot. Instead Ben throw a lot when the Steelers are losing. Famously, the Steelers are 0-7 in playoff games when Ben throw 35+ passes, and 13-1 when he doesn't . But seriously, Jax is up 28-7, NE is winning 34-9, Balt is leading 30-15, GB leads 21-3, what do you want him to do? Hand off the ball?

Conversely last year, you're beating ATL 41-17, and Car 52-21. Ben ain't throwing.

This is what I was trying to point out, thanks for the research & clear explanation. (# of throws a game/ win, loss) is not good stat to bash Ben about. Most of his losses with 35+ throws are because they have to throw.

My bash on Ben is his preparation. Too much natural talent to have to dig deep.

I tagged your post as Winner after the edit. The cause and effect get switched around all the time. Good digging.

I’ll set o/u at 9.5. For fun I’ll take the under. Here’s my optimistic stat line:

    4,500 yards
    35 TDS
    9 ints
    63% cp
1 rushing TD, 1 receiving TD (how cool would that be?)

Of course, I reserve the right to alter this after the first drive next week!

I'll go with 14. I think he struggles at first without AB but finds his footing pretty quickly.

That said, I think Ben is on a mission to prove the haters.

I think his interception % will go down. I also think his pass attempts will go down slightly which means something in the neighborhood of 10-12 picks on the year.

I don't recall specifics but over the last few years Ben absolutely forced the ball to AB. Everyone knew he became aloof if he wasn't being targeted enough so they forced the issue at times.

18 with a few being mishandled by receivers.
