I expect Vince to be on the field in base and short-yardage defense. I think our other LBs need to quickly develop to the point where Vince can be on the sideline when we are in pass defense sub-packages. To me that would keep Vince as part of a workable rotation, but it requires that multiple guys be capable of calling the defense on the field.

Vince doesn't play the same when he calls it though.

They're more concerned with what he thinks he's seeing than anything else at this point.

PFF has him at 5 for what its worth but he had 8 the year before. Steelers will value his ability to get to the QB.

We don't even know how Barron will be used, there has been some indication it will be as a box safety.

I think last year's was more on the average. Timmons used to get about 6 or so a year but the coverage difference was way different and so we're the tackle numbers.

Two years ago I believe Tuitt was injured a lot and we needed to create sacks and Vince blitzed more to help that situation. Last year he was in coverage more and that didn't work out well. Our inside backers were ranked 28th in the league last year.

Vince is what he is. He started as a rookie because of an injury and ended up going back to the bench. He was never brought here to be the starter and I think he goes back to that role. Trouble was they threw too much money at him and then saw the results. We had a depleted lb Corp at that time and are now trying to rectify that. Lots brought in to compete knowing it will cost to much to get rid of vince. We are almost forced to have him out there in some capacity and I'm afraid teams will take advantage of he's in coverage so blitzing may be most of what he does, and they will be ready for that it they are smart. I also think he will struggle getting home with the movement qbs like Jackson and Mayfield.

I don't hate Vince. Hes just over payed and has physical limitations to add to a defense that needs change at that position. The team sees it with the people that they brought in.

8 posts and you are already correcting us old timers on this board? Who do you think you are? You need to learn that we are right even when we aren't right! (just to avoid confusion, I am only kidding)

For all you VW haters, he isn't going away. Barron and Bush should get the majority of snaps. My problem
as I stated in previous thread is these guys are too light in the pants against a physical OL with a big powerful
back. Come end of third quarter they will be running over these guys.

I’m not a VW hater, and I’m not sure how got that from my post that you replied to. I am realistic about what he brings to the pass defense though.

How big do you want them? Red is 235. Bush is 234. Vince is 233. Barron is 230. Gilbert 230.

I know your not SE, but there alot on this board that are. We will need as much play from VW
that he can give us whether that will be enough I am not sure.

A lot of guys are listed at the same weight for their entire careers. Ben is still listed at 6’5”, 240, and James Harrison was listed at 240 on our roster until he went to Cinci and they updated his weight to 260+. VW may have been 233 when he joined the league, but he looks like a solid 245+ to me.

Being smaller may mean they get mauled by a more physical OLine but if you watch Barron's highlight film it also means they are quicker and can get by those bigger lineman and make the tackle in the backfield.

If you get a team like Jacksonville that was loading up with heavy sets to run the ball that's when you pull your cover guys and look at a lineman heavy front.

I would love to see them go with a 4 man line every once in a while against teams like Jacksonville that just line up and come right at you.

I think we have the personnel to take on those offenses, but the DC doesn’t utilise all the talent or mix things up as much as he might.

Maybe there are reasons for that which we can’t see, but it’s frustrating!

The Manning-era Colts D was based on smalller LBs with speed and getting a lot of guys to the tackle. They did ok with that for a while.

Sounds like Ben picked on Devin Bush for 3 TDs in 7 shots today. :hmm:

Snell is put together, our RB's have very nice size. He will be a good player.

Vince's game is very similar to Bostics on what they bring to the table imo. Someone to shore up the hole until it can be addressed in the offseason. We just need another offseason because most of our lbs are journeymen not starters.

trouble is they paid Vince as a starter. I agree about Vince and bostic. The numbers were near identical last year. Fort would have brought more to the team but the money was already wrongly spent.

Agreed. No way Vince is only 233, thats only a little heavier than me. Close to 250 for sure.
