Bortle had an average/below average game, compared to his season average.
    214 yards, 1 TD. 54% completion rate.
Dunno why people think he had a monster game.

The 2 turnovers leading to 14 points made the difference.

He made some big plays in that game. Without him Bortleing the defense, the 14 pt. gift wouldn't have mattered.

Yep. I believe their last 2 TD drives had passes of 40 and 45 yards to set up TDs. One was on 3rd down, and the other was on 1st down after they converted on 3rd and long. The pass defense killed us late in that game.

If the gray cells are still working, we also lost containment on third and long three times to the right side and gave up third and long runs for first downs.

Exactly, people think he was a hero. He wasn’t. He didn’t have a good day. Eliminate 2 plays and he had a horrible day. Eliminate 3 runs and we win by 14. We weren’t good. We weren’t as bad as made out to be.

    Any game. 5 plays.

I counted last season. Change 11 plays all season, we win the conference, and no one other than Heinz is yelling the sky is falling.

But we didn’t make those 11 plays.

How many times did the Steelers' offense make some miraculous play against what had been a great defense all that season? Both teams gave up plenty of big plays they shouldn't have allowed.

Ben had 5 TDs and 469 yards.
You could take away 5 big plays, and he still would have had over 300 yards against a great defense.

2019 season is all that matters right now. Make plays this year. This team needs to make its own identity.

Heyward is performing, its Tuitt that has been the disappointment. Needs to prove his worth this season.

The issue Ask is WHO is calling the defense? Butler or Tomlin? Personally Butler should have been gone. This will be the tale of the tape this season. They have made some upgrades and hopefully up and comers like Ola can streamline this defense in spite of who is coaching it.

Now to the Gravedigger. Love that nickname. 46% and look at the production. Have to get him more involved. Also need to sign him now but the issue is the money for a part time player. Still will command a high number. And they have 2 that are already the highest on the payroll list. Might be the last year of Hargrave. I hope not. What a 9.2 savings could have done! Tight to the cap now...

You were talking about taking away the breakdowns by the Pittsburgh defense, which you can't do anyway. The Jaguars had some ugly breakdowns, too. In fact, at least two of those touchdowns were inexcusable mistakes by Jacksonville's defense. It goes both ways.

    Then you missed the point.

Take away a handful of big pass plays, and Bortles has less than 100 yards passing against a middling Steelers pass defense.
Take away the same number of big pass plays from Ben, and he still has over 300 yards against a top pass defense.

The two cases are not the same.

They are in the fact that you can't actually take away any of those plays. Big plays, and big breakdowns, are part of the game. If anything, the Jaguars' defense having those breakdowns was more of a fluke given that they didn't have them nearly as often as the Steelers that season.
