Im not happy about the extension, but I do feel like it was only given in order to prevent any controversy regarding Tomlin's job security.

I am not a fan of Tomlin's, and thought he should have been fired after last season. However, there is a new season upon us, and Mike T has my full support going into it. I hope he has self evaluated, and makes some positive changes in regards to game and team management. I hope Tomlin proves us all wrong this season.

Actually he wasn't that bad from what I remember. Yeah he had his draft misses but so did Colbert.

Donahoe dismantled a very good team in the mid to late 90s by refusing to pay anyone. He disrespected Steelers legends on the way out the door. He failed to replace the talent he let go by following up his refusal to re-sign talent with some stinker drafts. Had Colbert not been brought in when he was there is no doubt in my mind the success we had in the 2000s would have never happened.

Mike seemed testy with some of the questions after practice. Granted they were trying to get him to talk about level of excitement and different feeling to start of camp. Basically trying for Bell and Brown soundbites.

Because ownership gave him no choice they didn't want to pay anybody. That was when they were whining about a new stadium and how they couldn't compete despite being in a salary cap league.

I was on the put the brakes on any extension, lets see how the season pans out. The one year extension keeps the media at bay so their would be limited distractions. But to me it seems under the radar sing for your supper shot from Art II.

Colbert will not get an extension. He wants to wait. Might move on with his life's work.

My hope is that they go deep in the playoffs, win the division. This defense seems to have added players to be successful. We shall see.

Tomlin's best seasons were in his first 4 years. He needs to get back to this mentality. Dumb decisions, bad challenges, the dumbfounded looks when under adversity, losing to lesser talent and either missing the playoffs or getting the gate in the 1st stint isn't going to cut it. The microscope is on. As it should be...

He got fired by the Rooneys, something which is almost impossible to do. That should tell you all you need to know.

What that executive said has a ring of reasonableness to it. I wonder how much latitude he really had to deal with some of the egos on the team in a manner that would get their attention (I’m referring mainly to AB, but also Bell and Ben to an extent).

Maybe you should look up the word consistently , those guys won as game managers, it's a different league now.

He helped put together a Super Bowl team, the Steelers couldn't compete with the big market teams in terms of free agency back then.

This is true, that came from the top. People think the Steelers are bad now in FA, back then they didn't even keep their own.

Its a testament to how well they drafted, they could legitimately plug and play back then.

And the Steelers did better with Tomlin (10-6) after Cowher (8-8). :icon mrgreen:

Agreed. It appears Tomlins seat is finally warm.

I think last year was easily Tomlins worst coaching season. He misses the playoffs again, I think they will move on.

He was fired by the Rooney's because Cowher said he couldn't work with him, same as when they had no problem dismissing assistant coaches.

The "executive" also told me that it was determined before the season ever started that AB was gone at the end of the year due to an incident involving AB's "Personal Social Media Manager" and a female Steelers PR rep.

This can explain a lot about the year that was with AB.

I guess I am business savvy enough to know that this kind of thing goes on every day in big business but I just don't want it in football.

Totally different era of football. Back in that day, teams tried to build incredible defenses and diverse offenses, a decent QB "could" win a SB. In today's era, if you don't have an elite QB, it's like trying to win the lottery.

    From Asked and Answered
DUSTIN ENOS FROM SARASOTA, FL: How many losing seasons have the Steelers had since 1933? And how many since Chuck Noll was hired as the coach?
ANSWER: The Steelers are about to embark on their 87th season in the National Football League, and over the course of the previous 86 they have posted 44 winning seasons, 33 losing seasons, and nine in which they finished .500. Since Chuck Noll was hired in 1969, the Steelers have posted 36 winning seasons, 10 losing seasons, and four in which they finished .500. Breaking that down by coach, Noll had 15 winning seasons, seven losing seasons, and one .500 season; Bill Cowher had 11 winning seasons, three losing seasons, and one .500 season; and Mike Tomlin has 10 winning seasons, zero losing seasons, and two .500 seasons.

Interesting. Perhaps one reason Tomlin left him to do his thing? Sounds like bridges were burned a while ago, but this puts some new light on it.

Hines Ward, Joey Porter, Aaron Smith and Alan Faneca were good picks. Mike Vrable, too... but he turned to evil.

The reason the Steelers haven't had a losing season since 2007: BEN ROETHLISBERGER. Period.

Yeah, 'cause they've never had any good assistant coaches or coordinators (Grimm, Arians, LeBeau) RBs (Bettis) receivers (Ward, Wallace, Holmes, El, Brown) Defense (Harrison, Polamalu, Porter, Ike, Big Snack) Offensive line (Dawson, Pouncy, Villanueva...….) Methinks you give Ben too much credit
