Why does Edmunds seem like an afterthought?

This is a 1st rd pick, yet there's almost no expectations for him. I don't see anybody talking about him. A lot of people couldn't believe they didn't draft a Safety high, yet not at all.

It seems like many have no expectations for him at all. Like he's a non entity. I don't know that I've ever seen this before in a 1st rd pick before he's even started his second season.

The press doesn't even talk about the guy! So many seem so indifferent towards him.

All that being said, to me, his development is going to be crucial to the teams success. He needs to become an impact player. A 1st rounder.

I would agree. Maybe because he was "just there" as a rookie. He got a lot of experience, but there wasn't much splash. Plus the overall sentiment, right or wrong, was that he was overdrafted and expectations may be lower. Just another SPARQ and NFL bloodline draft pick.

Saw on NFL or somewhere where they projected a good sophomore season from him

I don't know that it is necessarily a bad thing not talking about Edmunds. I like the guy, and I think he is going to be a good one.

Was going to say much the same thing.

The fact we’re not talking much about the secondary at all is encouraging at this point.

Became a starter and was 2nd on the team in tackles. Not a bad rookie year.

Too much ammunition with Dupree & Burns at the moment. Edmunds actually upgraded our secondary last year imo.

Edmunds had a solid rookie season..... that is a tough position for a rookie....... Troy even had a lot of trouble the first 10 or 12 games

    This.

Safety was a need heading into the draft just as much as linebacker. Trusting Morgan Burnett to stay healthy a full season would have been foolhardy. In addition, Mike Mitchell was released; depth there being thin anyway.

I believe that Terrell is primed for a "Sophomore Explosion". Just a matter of time now. His issue was being slotted in too early. As me and you both stated last year after they drafted him, Morgan was to start initially while Edmunds would ease his way in.

It is amazing he even had the season he did. He can only go up from here. Cannot wait too.

He definitely improved as the season went on. It was a bit of a rocky start.

Having a LB make rookie mistakes usually only costs you downs. Having a rookie safety make mistakes costs you games. And in last year’s case a game was a playoff spot.

Sean Davis led the team in tackles playing the previous season. Do you think he was particularly good in 2017?

You know what is really amazing? A rookie inside linebacker earning All-Pro honors is really amazing. :)

Nope, but he would have if they had made the right choice with their first-round pick last year.

    Feeling accomplished?!

It would not surprise me. All that has been stated anyway. Your Bulverism never ceases to amaze me.

I was having little fun while also staying on topic. Your response is adding to my fun, so thank you.

Also, if you're going to break out words like bulverism, you really should use them correctly.

Who would have thought you could increase your vocabulary on a Steelers message board?

Yes he was considering that 'never around the play Mitchell ' was his sidekick. Could not have asked for anything more from the at the time rookie. 3 ints. & tackling leader.

Chances are then he wouldn't have earned All-pro honors. Might have seen the field by midseason but given the staff''s record of veteran vs rookie the practice evidence would have to have been Everest like in order to get playing time.
