Do you think Bud Dupree is going to have a new contract before the season?

We can only hope. But competition should be had at this position. We need
productivity at this position. Not some guy running past the QB, They have to get home.

Watt is a contributor but all the great Steeler defenses had at least 2 good to great linebackers.

I tend to be on the positive side of coaching decisions, but one I don't agree with was not bringing in a coach for OLBs for specifically pass rushing skills. A technician + motivator would have been perfect. Someone such as KEVIN GREEN for example. Was really hoping for them to go that direction but they didn't.

They just need a bird in their ear IMO to both encourage and criticize along with motivate.

With all that said, I think this will be Buds last year in the Burgh. I think he will be a starter on whatever team he ends up on however for a couple years anyways.

Even if that did happen it likely wouldn’t happen during preseason.

The problem is that Dupree has been working with one of the best pass rushing coaches (Chuck Smith) in the offseason, and it hasn’t helped. He may be untrainable. It’s like when I go for golf lessons. I play great later that day, but when I go back on the course a week later it’s all gone.

    This.

If the likes of both Chuck Smith and Von Miller are unable to assist, there is a serious issue. Dupree has the athletic ability most pass rushers dream of. His issues still remain in terms of the fundamentals in converting speed to power.

All the more reason that I hope Ola has grown greatly. He really is the current failsafe plan here. I would say Chickillo but he is what he is at this point.

His competition got smaller today, Adams was cut so basically Ola, Chic, and Sutton Smith.

Hmm...kinda early in the process. Injury related? They also signed a new guy from the rookie FA pool. It’s certainly looking like a 3 man effort again this year

I don't know why they did it. The beat writers were making a big deal about the money paid to him, giving him x amount of dollars to keep him on the practice squad and so on. This might be the first sign of a shift in talent evaluation for Tomlin's staff.

Bud doesn't need to get 10 sacks, but at least I wish he was better against the run.

I have a feeling Chick will get a chance to focus on just being an OLB and we'll get to see what he can do.

If Ola continues to improve, he will get snaps along with Chickillo as backups. Also Sutton Smith might have a specialist role as a pass rusher.

Ok if you say so but Butler has been quoted as saying they went with a 3 man rotation last year and he doesn’t see that changing in 2019 Don’t shoot the messenger :shrug:

Maybe Ola being injured the first part of last season had something to do with a three man rotation, I don't see that happening in 2019.

Trust me I hope not either. I feel we need to see what the others offer so we aren’t stuck at OLB again. The thing is like I said Butler himself said he didn’t see it changing. This was recently, knowing full well Ola is healthy. We’ll see....

If Bud learns how to bend the edge then expect that sack count to go up. He has all the physical tools. Why he still has not acquired bend is beyond me.

Attack the QB instead of the space 10 yards behind him. Simple concept. Stupid player.

Hitting on draft picks every year isn't going to happen because the talent between drafts isn't created equal. I don't think there is a team in the league that hits on first round draft picks 100% of the time. Yet here some people are complaining about some picks that didn't pan out. Go figure.

At the end of the day it isn't simply about the 1st round of the draft. It's about the organization's over all ability to field competitive teams consistently. Sometimes players drafted in the later rounds pan out better than expected to make up for 1st round picks.

The large majority of NFL rosters have a large turnover every 4 or 5 seasons. One good thing about the NFL is that there is always new talent coming into the league every season.

The Steelers have done a good enough job to build teams that remain competitive and relevant year in and year out.
