Do you think it's possible that Tomlin does not have a new contract extension before the season?

Everytime that the contract of our HC remains 2 years in his contract, the Steelers gives an extension before the regular season.

Do you think with the fact that the Steelers were very disappointing in the last season (on and off the field) that this is possible that the steelers wait a year before giving a new contract to Tomlin or you think he will have a new contract because he is untouchable for the Steelers?

I expect that he will coach the season of his life and the choice to extend or not will be made after the season.

    This.

You removed the problem childern from the locker room. You have acquired the players to fix major issues on the team; team oriented and dedicated ones at that. You still have a Hall of Fame Quarterback who still looks like he has some left in the tank.

Enough of the :bscow:. Stop beating the same :beathorse:. Get deep into the playoffs. Better yet? Win the Super Bowl.

    No excuses. Otherwise?! To paraphrase Dave Mustaine;

I actually hope they come right out and tell MT what the expectation is this season (wins) and make it extremely clear that his job is riding on it. I'm not a fan of fear, but sometimes fear produces results, good or bad. Defecate or get off the pot!

I think it is very possible let's see how this team bounces back from last season.

Bush better pan out. Giving up a kings ransom, losing two top players in the league and bad press surrounding the team this past year may be coming to a head. Positive results have to be evident or someone's job is in trouble. Bens final years are upon us and results need to happen. Colbert to me has taken more of a lead here lately and somewhat less MT in the spotlight through this process is telling. Maybe I'm reading to much in to it but something is different. Those two are not joined at the hip as in the past. JMO.

I would be surprised if Tomlin does not have a new contract before the season. For the steelers, Tomlin is untouchable even if he is far from being a great coach. Also not only steelers have underachieve a lot in the last couple years, but of course the culture has been horrible for some time, especially since Cowher players have left or retired.

Since the retirement of James Farrior and Hines Ward after the 2011 season, the culture has been getting worse and worse from year to year.... Blaming this on social media is just another excuse for Tomlin.

A Tomlin contract extension should be penned with invisible ink regardless of the timing.

Uh... and when you come a fork in the road, take it. Not the usual definitive statement/opinion we generally see from you dobbler :drinks:

At any rate, I wish they would "send him a message" but it would really surprise me. The last contract was for 3 years I believe. My gut (which ain't worth much) is that if they send a message it will be through 2022 instead of through 2023. A one year "prove it" extension would not give them much leverage if he does prove it.

I guess you missed it when Art Rooney II already said he wasn't going to give Tomlin a extension , if it happens it will have to be after a successful 2019 season.

He didn't say that, said we'll cross that bridge when we get there and that everyone needs to do better, nobody is absolved.

hmmm, that's a bit of a change from Bouchette. At the end of the season he 'wasn't so sure' they'd extend Tomlin, now he expecting it.

I'm guessing he's getting he cues from Art II and the front office, so he's probably onto something.

The media that covers the team reported that during last season, there will be no extension at the time per Art II.

    No idea.

But in poker there's a lot of times where you either fold or raise. You don't check. This is the same. If the Steelers were going to let Tomlin go, i.e. fold, they would have done so. Checking here, i.e. not firing him but not extending him makes zero sense. So the question is by how much do they raise? That I have no idea.
