If Bonds hadn't had his head so far up his a$$ back then, that team could have, should have gone all the way with Drabek, Walk, Zane Smith, Van Slyke, Bonilla, great catcher duo of Spanky/Slaught. But the 96 win 1992 team was even better especially with rookie call up Tim Wakefield. That waste of talent reminds me of Steelers last 9 years with BB at the helm.

Bonilla was gone from the '92 team. The Pirates weren't as good because of it. Cecil Espy, Alex Cole and Lloyd McClendon all played around 50 games in right field for the Pirates in 1992. Those three together didn't come close to matching Bonilla's production. Together the three of them hit four home runs and drove in 50 runs on the year.

Regardless, the 92 team came closer to advancing to the WS than the 91 team but were done in late during a 5 minute span by Lind, Belinda and Bonds. Still a lot of debate whether Leyland should have brought in Wakefield in relief late in that last game since he had dominated the Braves throughout the series. Little did we know the vacuous Black Hole in which they were to descend for a generation. Unfortunately they may have begun the 2nd leg of that sad journey. But no matter.....will always remain a #1 fan of the Black and Gold, no matter which Pgh team (throw in the Pitt Blue and Gold as well). I don't think there's a known cure.
