Here we go alright, 67.5 mill guaranteed, right into cap Hell:

    Adam Schefter

Ben Roethlisberger’s two-year extension is worth $68 million, and includes a $37.5 million signing bonus and an additional $30 million in injury guarantees, per source. Roethlisberger had one year at $12 millon left - and now has three at $80 million - $67.5 gtd.

Keeping Wilson and Rodgers in mind, unless you planned on dumping Ben after this season, this is a good deal.

If I were to tell you that you'll draft or place a man on your roster that gives you a shot at SB today, may possibly lead the league in passing, and IS a HOF'er but it will cost you 30 mil a year would you take it?

No matter who comes or goes we're relevant and more importantly DANGEROUS the next few years.
Great job keeping him locked up and happy and getting it done quickly.

Yep. It is a good deal for the Steelers, but Green Bay and Seattle will get their money's worth, too. There's only about 10 QBs that can consistently move the ball down the field... and those 3 are definitely on the list.

I am as tough on Ben as anyone but he'd be signed for that instantly if he were a free agent. It would have been great from our perspective as fans of the team if he'd have taken a discount but I don't expect it or begrudge him getting every cent he can.

Agreed, I am no Cap guru, but I believe that this years 12 mill is included in the 67.5 gtd. That brings it down a bit looking at the final 2 years. I do not know any place they can really move it off onto the future, but for what Ben brings and what the market is right now it is on par with other signings. Sure it would have been nice to see a Brady move, 15 mill a year till retirement, but that's really being unrealistic. It takes the team into the next CBA, basically gives a year to see what the younger guys have, then either negotiate or Tag one for a year (if available under new CBA) and move on from there. It is really on the table for this year and next, the 3rd perhaps, but that will be Ben's final tour.

When the steelers dont win the super bowl thats a losing season to me. Now that the team is looking for outside help in the secondary , because they cant develop thier own , they wont have the money to get a half decent name, cus they just threw the bank at Ben.

What gets me is they wouldnt give Bell his money and you get 5 years of quality, but they give Ben double that for only 2 years and he's already done his aim is way off

Why throw the money at someone whom you can't rely on in Bell from suspensions to injuries? Ben is the safe bet and they certainly weighed that option while Bell was thumbing his nose at the FO.

My biggest concern is not with Bell nor Brown leaving. It is with Munchak leaving and whether Ben can handle any pressure at this stage of his career. I think the Oline will be fine in the beginning but long term concerns me.

Either way, Ben staying is much greater than Bell and or Brown still staying here.

Are you serious? Won't give Bell his money? They offered him MORE than he signed for with the Jets. Paying him what he wanted would have been stupid, just ask LA now that they are unsure about Gurley's future and stuck with that huge guarantee.

It was the guarantee money that killed the deal think he wanted 30 mil and they only offered 10 or 15mil...the jets gave him the 25 to 30 mil guarantee

Let's see how Bell holds up with that Jets O-line blocking for him. Add to that... taking a whole season off. Bell has an injury and suspension history a mile long. Why the hell the Steelers tagged him last year... is beyond comprehension.

    Ring count:

    Roethlisberger- 2
    Bell- 0

How many QBs have made similar money to produce 0 championships? Or 1?

Unfortunately QB salaries are out of control. After Ben, I hope the Steelers take a different strategy with future QBs.

How many SBs have these 6 highly paid QBs won, in fact none of these six made the playoffs last year:

    1. Aaron Rodgers: $33.5M
    2. Matt Ryan: $30M
    3. Kirk Cousins: $28M
    4. Jimmy Garoppolo: $27.5M
    5. Matthew Stafford: $27M
    6. Derek Carr: $25M
