Hopefully two high level years left and with the third we have the future QB on board and Ben is backup year 3.

Depending on how the CBA negotiations go Ben may not stick around for that 3rd year. They could be locked out or on strike, either way ben has no reason to stick it out.

Probably get the numbers later on in the week but SB nation wrote this:

His new deal is expected to pay him in the region of $30 million a year.

Contract numbers have yet to be released, but we will be sure to update this post once they become available. However, given the length of the extension, fans should not expect to see much in the way of cap savings in 2019, with the new contract quite likely using up a bit more of their existing cap space this year than originally scheduled.

Fake news. It can’t be true. I keep reading on this very site that the Steelers are cheap.

So, I guess the plan is for Ben to retire with 5 rings then :hmm:

Dream on, you damned Patriots fan! The real plan is for Ben to sign another 2 year extension in 2021so he can retire with 7 rings to match his uniform numbers. Then we can all b*tch about the shortsighted decision to give him the number 7 as a rookie as opposed you giving him number 14.

That’s a lot more than I was expecting tbh. Steelers had to pay whatever it took but I thought they’d settle well below $30m

Hope it works out for him and the team

We can't expect the next 3 year's to be all-world from Roethlisberger but last season was his best yet. The Super Bowl window is still opened and with a lot less drama.

The league CBU contract will determine a lot in that 3rd year, but why, if Ben has 2 productive years would they pay him 30 million to be a back up? Likely that 3rd year has no guarantees (except for a roster bonus). A lot can happen in these 2 years, but I seriously doubt they pay ben to sit on the bench.

You cannot pay him franchise QB money to sit on the bench. He may well retire after year two depending on how things go.

I am glad they have come to terms but if you are trying to build a championship roster it’s going to be difficult when your QB is taking that much money. That’s going to cost another good player a place on the roster. I was naively expecting him to take a somewhat team friendly deal. He has every right to negotiate for what he can though, it’s a business after all.

Ben has largely been underpaid vs his peers relative to his success. He's not alone either. Largely Brady and Brees have never been the highest paid while other QBs with so few accomplishments have hauled in more.

It sounds really high, but unfortunately 31 million a year is the going price now.

Wait you mean you can get a contract extension with a lot of new money and I mean a lot, with out throwing your coach and teammates under the bus, being a social media pariah and engaging in a scorched earth campaign? This is totally new information!

How is this possible? Ben is a terrible teammate, has no leadership skills, he never came to my kids birthday party, and he wiped his ass on the curtains in the guest bathroom. WTF.

While this isn't cheap why do the Steelers always try to hide how much they are paying Ben? They did this last contract extension too. Every other team happily discloses this.

I don't know why any team discloses what they pay their players. Its really none of our business. I know i wouldn't be happy if my employer broadcast to the world how much I'm paid.

    1. Ben has never had a losing season.
    2. The Steelers have never signed big name free agents.
