I was hoping for a upgrade at backup OLB, Chickillo isn't a good #3 OLB.

If there are upgrades to be had, I’d rather they were late round picks or UDFAs. No sense overpaying an FA as a back up at this point.

This is a bit of a waste of cap space tbh.

I like the signing only because he is good at special teams.

Chickillo is a good special teams player. Also good depth for an OLB, he's not a starter. Steelers paid the going rate for his services.

Not when a team in need of cap space spent $4 million on a third, maybe fourth LB.

People are hard on Dupree, but Chickillo is a step down from him. Not a huge fan. He has on sack up the middle and looks ineffective on the edge rush.

If they release Dupree, I see a huge weakness at OLB.

That's the common consensus but not entirely accurate. Dupree has been a very average to below average edge rusher, but that doesn't mean he doesn't do other things well such as maintain his gap assignment against the run and play zone coverage well. He also does have good sideline to sideline ability with good tackling.

But you won't see people post these positives on him as he isn't excelling on what he was drafted for in the 1st which is rushing the QB.

And just about everyone including me agrees he's not worth 9million. The only way that is paid is if they are desperate, which it looks like they may be.

I can almost gaurantee when Dupree leaves the Steelers, he will be a starter elsewhere probably with the same type of impact as he has here.

Apparently NE offered Chick a similar contract and he chose to stay in Pittsburgh.

I think we can both agree he's not the play maker that they envisioned when drafting him. He's good at tying up 1 lineman and chasing after the play/ball carrier. He rarely even gets chipped by the RB.

I was hoping to let him walk. The only reason any one likes the signing is because he was already here. If the article read Steelers sign Chickalo away from the Seahawks... the board would be losing its mind (see Steven Nelson thread)

Yep, I'm one of those that have been purporting the Steelers to sign a top proven edge rusher to replace Dupree, but it looks like that has sailed. It was a tough market this year with Trey Flowers just getting signed by the Lions as one of the top 5 paid in the league. Not sure the Steelers could swing that one anyways. Hopefully the draft provides something more.

I was on the fence on whether Chick would stay or go. But with him staying and Dupree getting the option (more than likely), I don't think OLB will be a draft consideration. I figured this is how it would end up and haven't even looked at prospects at OLB except some very late rounders.

    Think about this:

    Ed Bouchette Retweeted TJ Watt

T,J, Watt, the Steelers best OLB, now by far their lowest paid after Bud Dupree and backup Anthony Chickillo

His time is coming. We should be in good enough cap shape to give him a nice deal.

Started thinking about it and maybe chickillo is that hard working team oriented guy like Watt or Heyward is and they want more of that. If this is the case then re sign dirty red too.

Paying Shazier is a step in the right direction. We need some soul searching lol

I can live with the growing pains just no more drama please lol

There is a huge weakness with Dupree on the field. But don't fret, he will get paid 1.84 mill per sack. What a waste.

Paid this waste 9.2 to see the same garbage production and then Colbert will say "Well it just didn't work out" which really means we made a mistake drafting this Dud. So where will they move him this season? :lolol:

Maybe a draft day trade? Then another team can have the garbage we have seen in 4 years.

Colbert is starting to get on my last nerve.

    Glad they resigned Chick.

    Jeremy Fowler @JFowlerESPN

Patriots were in on Anthony Chickillo at similar deal to what he just signed with Pittsburgh, two years for $8 million. Chickillo said it was tempting but he wanted to win with Steelers. “It’s funny everybody’s counting us out,” Chickillo said. “You still have to play.”
